Gates of Flesh

Despite of never having heard about this 2025 horror movie titled "Gates of Flesh" prior to sitting down to watch it, of course I needed no persuasion to watch it, given my love of all things horror.

Writer Bob Giordano, who also directed the movie, put together a pretty straightforward script, though it was a bit reminiscent of the "Evil Dead" franchise in certain ways.

So within a mere couple of hours after getting infected, your teeth turn crusty yellow? Yeah, that just makes so much sense. I cannot fathom what writer Bob Giordano was thinking here with this thing.

I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, which was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie. The acting performances in "Gates of Flesh" were fair.

The effects in "Gates of Flesh" were pretty low key. But hey, I have seen far worse special effects in other horror movies, so at least it wasn't entirely bad.

Watchable for what it was, but it was not an outstanding foray into the horror genre. Watchable a single time, especially if you enjoyed the "Evil Dead" movies.

My rating of writer and director Bob Giordano's 2025 movie "Gates of Flesh" lands on a five out of ten stars.

As "Gates of Flesh" begins, we see a group of four young people running into a building, desperately trying to escape some form of plague or something that is raging outside. A quick flashback gives us some backstory, and then the rest of the movie, we see the group trying to figure out a way to escape and also deal with the possibility that one of them has fallen victim to whatever is out there...

As mentioned in my title, "Gates of Flesh" is actually a pretty effective knock-off of "The Evil Dead." It's nicely claustrophobic and creepy, and even when you are settling into it, the movie throws you some curve-balls that you likely won't see coming. For a low budget film, lighting and sound is pretty good, the cast of unknowns does a pretty nice job with the material, and the makeup is pretty outstanding for the budget.

Solid recommendation for this little horror flick.
