I keep watching the next episode hoping that my ambivalence to this show will dissipate. It has yet to do so. I loved the movie, I never read the books to be honest, so my critiques is less regarding source material and more the show. At first I couldn't put my finger on what bothers me about the show...but unfortunately it comes down to Russel Hornsby. His portrayal of the main character is painful to watch. The timing feels strange, the writing for him is terrible. His stoicism is almost annoying. He is really hard to watch. (This isnt to say I haven't liked Hornsby in other roles, I really blame the back room for this mess)
The writing in general is terrible. They don't allow for any exposition to come naturally, through acting or organic story. Its all shoehorned really awkwardly into some cringe-worthy dialogue.

Why bother to trade on a popular book series and then change half the characters? What possible difference could it have made to keep the caregiver Thom, the forensic guru Mel, the police officer Ron? Why change Sachs' back story to a generic TV show drama trope? And especially the beginning - made up and completely different than the book. Deaver evidently sold out to change not just the characters but his carefully crafted portrayal of a quadriplegic. This show's version has Lincoln all but get up out of bed and dance a jig.

Terrible Casting killed it for me, from there it went down hill.. i like Sachs the rest don't fit
The suspense and thriller are none existent.. It's not dark enough for what it's trying to be..
And note to "give it a chance" folks: Watching more episode in hopes that it will improve is how networks make money from nonsense shows

Everything about it is attractive. Good work by almost everyone involved.
But each time I tried, I just kept running into the same problem.
His character is just too annoying. I'm sure he's supposed to be. They went too far. I found him unwatchable.

Not read the books, only seen the movie. Why would you bother making something this bad? Terrible rote acting. Clumsy all round. How about this? Give all the money wasted on so many mediocre US series and give it to the UK and Europe who can do a far better job, for a lot less money.

I want to like this show, loved the movie, never read the books. But love these kinde of riddle crime shows.
This is not a good one, story is bad, forced. nothing makes any kind of sence.
Just skip this and watch something else.
I was looking forward to this but it's poor. Totally implausible, ridiculously predictable and badly acted. I've sat through 6 episodes now but enough is enough.

I loved the film so was expecting a lot from this. Firstly, it's speed to conclusion is unreal. She's gone missing- oh no wait the found a feather (example only) she must be at the chicken factory- yippee found her... end.
Secondly, he is extremely arrogant and I agree with other reviews that it's so painful to watch. I'd have told him to stuff the camera where the sun doesn't shine...
I'm hoping for something more so one more episode is all it gets of my attention before I look for something else

This is just like another cop show back in early 20s. Some parts of the show make no sense, main plot is held back as much as the studio can so that the number of episodes can be stretched; It's so typical. 6 stars is too high, don't you think?

I love the books. I love the movie with Denzel in but this is just so disappointing. The actors are just terrible. It's all a little too convenient. The guy who plays Lincoln comes across as condescending but not in the right way. They don't do the crime scenes right - I mean where are the booties and the protective suits. It just doesn't wash for me. Lincoln Ryhme would not stand for this shoddy work! I can't believe the author of the books has seen these episodes and given approval. What a waste of an excellent concept. This could have been so good. Instead it's soooooo bad.

It is truly worth skipping. It's poorly executed, cringey, the cast seemed like they didn't even want to be contributing to the show at all, and the leads (Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia) are laughable. Many have pointed out Lincoln's character and it's just absolutely ridiculous. The mannerisms and acting were a complete joke. At some point, right around mid-season, this character became nothing but a joke in our household. We genuinely laughed at how bad it had been. The only time the show seemed to have picked up was whenever the Bone collector was featured. You can only imagine my disappointment, once I realized the 2-part finale actually opened up a story for a second season. Please spare the viewers and don't make a second season. Just don't! Was really looking forward to this show ENDING for good. Don't revive it, just kill it, please.
