Dystopia is new to Indian audience. And dystopian fiction was written for much less in the west. Art needs to keep check on politics when all else is failing. Visuals could have been better. But writing and acting are top notch. Must watch if you happen to possess a mind of your own.
Sure, it's inspired by The Handmaid's Tale, but it's also a timely mirror to frightening political scenarios around the world, in which women's reproductive choices are being dictated by patriarchs. Ignore the fanatic criticism in some of the reviews below, which only see this as a "Hindu-bashing" series. It's secondary to the story of many societies that are developing a sort of moral absolutism as a growing backlash to modernity, economic empowerment, and freedom of thought and lifestyle. It's a way for those in our societies who are frightened of what they don't know to retain or assert power over others they see as a threat to their sense of self. Timely, important and culturally relevant to everyone, not just Indians.
This show actually depicts kind of future this country is gonna have if we continue on our current path. And this show has received low ratings just because the majority can't handle the bitter truth that has been thrown into their face. Because people in India can relate to this kind of future maybe 50 years from now.
The storyline is pretty good, actors have done justice to their characters. Huma Qureshi has always been a good actor. I'd recommend everyone to watch it. The low ratings are just from the haters.
I don't know why these right wingers are so afraid from these fiction pieces (same thing happened with Mulk last year) that they run a propaganda against films/shows which show the immediate/possible reality of the world. But these people think these are Anti-Hindus, Guys atleast watch it so many people earn their livings, think practically. And, I have always same question, that how brittle are their sentiments that potentially get hurt by fictional stories.
Now, about the show - Yes it's not perfect as it has pacing issues but it hits all the right notes, from story to screenplay to the acting performances.
Watch it before judging.
Hindi Web series to see the nearby dystopian future in which we are exposed to the reality Hindu and Muslim cultures, in this they have executed it very much precisely.
