    Improving by the episode

Now that I'm getting used to the characters, it's growing on me. The non-linear time-shifting is off-putting, but manageable. I really now have a single objection: as soon as Kojak came out of those woods, all I wanted to see was Ray Walston (1994's Glen Bateman) walk up behind him. It's become Pavlovian.... see the dog, miss Ray Walston. Nothing wrong with Kinnear, just reminds me how good Walston was; the sense of humor, the humanity, the wise words... man that was good stuff. Anyway, I haven't read the book in decades, nor seen the miniseries recently (but I'm gonna, soon), so can't really speak to how close it's staying, but as a stand-alone, it's holding its own.

    The best so far

I'm just happy to have a new version of my favorite King character, Nick Andros. So far I'm really liking the way Henry Zaga portrays him, making the character a bit less soft and more defiant than in the 1994 mini series. I absolutely love that he gave Randall Flagg the finger.

I'm also intrigued by this new version of Tom Cullen. He seems sufficiently sweet and endearing, and his and Nick's first encounter made me smile.

    HE'S COMING!!

"M-o-o-n and that spells OUCH! My name is Tom Cullen and I have a hard time reading social cues."

I love this show and it keeps getting better. Every time they introduce a character I smile and remember the book. Just waiting for the Trash Man!

In the old version, Glen Bateman's house is straight outta poetry with trees, grasses, a small bridge n a flowing river which can be used for keeping the cans cool but..

They messed it up in this one. In the old version, the camaraderie between Nick Andros n Tom Cullen reminded me of Of Mice and Men. Hope they expand on that. Amber Heard is not convincing as Nadine. Hope they bring some intensity with the arrival of Trashcan man.

The show is gettin slower as opposed to building tension.

    well, it took 3 episodes....

I tried hard to reserve judgment on this redo of the classic, oft-published stephen king novel. visions of the 90s miniseries stood out and there can't help but be comparisons. after all, "it" actually got better when remade, didn't it? and stephen king had some input this time.

after watching 3 episodes, i have to conclude i don't like it. yes, there's the constant mentioning in other reviews about the non-linear storytelling style. i have to agree that it really takes you out of the story, and that's really the best part, i always thought.

the casting doesn't work for me either. most especially, the jim carrey cover band playing harold lauder. what happened to the insecure fat guy from the book? frannie, too, should be a lot nicer than she is being portrayed. it's an interesting choice, but....

the end result is a lot like a time travel movie for me. i mean, i'll always watch it, but that doesn't mean i'm going to like it or that it's going to be good.

    • Trivia
In the scene where Drogan (TJ Kayama) is talking to Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg), he is kneeling as he recalls being with Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård). In the background when Flagg's hand touches his face you can see the carpet, which has the same print as the carpet in the Overlook Hotel in The Shining (1980).
    • Goofs
When Stu (James Marsden) finds the painting lying sideways of Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg), it is an 18" x 24" portrait, oriented with her head to the right. When he picks it up to show Glen (Greg Kinnear), he turns it to the right, thereby orienting the painting upside down. However, when he turns it around, it is oriented correctly but is now a 24" x 18" landscape orientation. There are two different paintings.
