  • Pay attention & you will (probably) love it

Great acting - started watching for two personal favorites, Zahn M. & Aneurin B., who happily for me are paired together. However David Thewlis & Marcia Gay Harden are giving amazing performances. It is a complex story, and starts off with a "who is that" issue that plagues the beginning of many worthwhile mini series - I did rewatch each of the first 2 episodes, both because I enjoyed them enough to do so, and also because I knew I would pick up on more with the rewatch. Personally I enjoy having to think about the story: for me that is the fun of a good show or a good book. So a viewer who similarly likes to be invested will find this worth their time; someone who's taste runs to lighter simpler fare will no doubt be bored and dismissive as evidenced by the lead review on this page. To each their own - but imo great tv!

  • Probably an 8 but gave it a 10 to offset the really bad reviews!

Okay, so definitely not for everyone. But as a history major the historical inaccuracies didn't faze me, because unlike other shows, such as Reign, this is first and foremost exactly what it bills itself as - a satire. Just binge watched (thanks to dreadful house arrest, um I mean social distance & isolation) all 10 episodes and I do hope a 2nd season comes to pass. The cast is enjoyable - especially Nicholas Hoult: the awkward kid from About A Boy (movie) grew up nicely! Walks the fine line between black comedy and drama nicely, imo.

  • If you like your narration cloying & intrusive, give this a try!

In audio books, I prefer the narrative to be clear and direct. Some books, wherein the narrator insists on doing silly voices and dramatic pauses drive me crazy. Just read the text, please! Along these same lines, a good documentary should be voiced by someone who lets the visuals and the story speak for itself. I tried this film - albeit briefly - to see if the critics were being too harsh, as Meghan is a neither here nor there "celebrity" for me: don't love her, don't despise her - and sad to say, I completely agree with the naysayers. Evidently Ms. Markle is truly not content not to be the center of attention, and she renders the film unwatchable, imo. Out of curiosity I listened to an excerpt of the dolphin one with Natalie Portman, who is also a neither here nor there "star" to me, and she excels, because she just narrates the film, with a calm clear delivery. I watched extended clips of these two documentaries only: my conclusion being I might give the dolphin one a real viewing but will consign the elephant one to the discard pile. After all there is too much quality viewing to waste my time on this sub par effort!
