Mary Gavin was born on April 12, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri. She first worked as a model for men's magazines, and later appeared in adult loops, better known as stag films. She had cameos in the Russ Meyer movies "Up!" (1976), and "Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra-Vixens" (1979). Using the name Candy Samples, she appeared in a number of adult movies, most notably "John Holmes And The All Star Sex Queens" (1980), "All The Way In!" (1984), "Inside Candy Samples" (1984), "The Best Little Whorehouse In San Francisco" (1984), and "A Taste Of Candy" (1985). She made her last adult movie in 1989. In addition, Candy toured the country as an exotic dancer, from the 1970's to the 1990's, when she retired from the adult entertainment industry. Archive footage of Candy Samples appears in the 2001 documentary "Pandora Peaks," which was written, produced, and directed by Russ Meyer (1922-2004).
