Malyalam film industry keep pushing its boundaries with its filmmaking and KK is the latest in that installments of such benchmark.
It's pace is achingly slow, and storyline reasonably thin. A lot of the plotline options open up at the start and you could smell that something is up somewhere along those lines. But I am sure, you would almost never be sure about it untill it's big reveal in the very end. And that's when all 120 minute of its runtime feels absolutely worth it.
Movie's protagonist feels to shift as the movie moves last it's first 15 minute. And from there on the guesswork begins for the audience.
Every actor acted there heart out. Direction and editing is brilliant. But what keeps the pace feels faster and bearable at points is it's incredible background score which pulls you into a mystery thriller mood even though the plot doesn't feel like so.
The reveals as it trickles throughout the story ( before the big reveal ) is well managed without much flare which adds to the aura of the story.
Overall, it's a movie which would define a mystery thriller storytelling where it almost never feels like one, until it's big reveal.
Absolute banger.

It's a routine mass entertainer done well, with drama, emotions and well placed laughs. But we all know that's not all, and that's never the focus of the movie. It's HANUMAN, and movie ensure that the audience don't loose focus of it with great cinematography, character and place namings, symbolism, and ofcourse the story arc itself.
The Introductory piece of the movie is done in Rajumauli Style ( for the sake of familiarity) and is done nearly as well. You could always see that the VFX team never had enough budget to go all guns blazing. But at the same time, it was evident that they brought all the sincerity and intent to make the best of the available resources and almost always got the basics of VFX right, be it underwater scene, or others.
Post the Introductory scene, it takes you through a storyline where arguably it helps to the submit to the director's way of storytelling. In no way, director stretches the style of storytelling and uses extreme exaggeration that we are not already accustomed to Superhero cinema ( in India and beyond) but seeing it being done by not some A listers might through viewers off a little.
And post that movie completely submerged itself into a well crafted masala entertainer. Who is the lead before he gets power, how he gets power, how it changes the small villege, how the antagonist and protagonist meets makes the main plot, with his love story, and villege political dynamics makes up the secondary plot on which the rest of movie revolves.
But what gets you the screaming on top of your lungs Jai Shri Ram at the end of the movie is the climax that fills you with pride and anticipation of what is going to come next.
I watched it in Hindi and the dubbing was pretty neat. A good indicator of that is always how the comedy scenes are dubbed and it was done well to get the hearty laugh out of the audience.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga is the new 🐐 of the film making. To make a three and half hour long movie with familiar plot lines and without a brilliant story to back that up, and yet come out triumphant tells that movie does have other elements that make audience whistle.
The first flourish of background Music, Larger than life and as primal as Bollywood has seen its protagonist be persona, over the top dialogues and elaborate well choreographed fight scenes with an odd ( and brilliant choice ) singing in the background... It had almost everything that could be considered as the secondary featur s of a great film and each one of those done almost brilliantly.
Movie never claimed to be a masterpiece either in telling an intricate story or a brilliant piece of drama or complex thriller. It came with an "A" certification which in this case is no Censor board error and a director's name who is considered a misogynist and spread alpha male egoism.
The movie lived up to all its hype of being huge and then added that VIKRAMesque climax ending to a well done story of father son bond and an Alpha male's interpretation of right, wrong, ethics and morality of today's society.
No main character are there to just warm the screen, and that 10 minute plot between Rashmika and Ranbir in second half is the testimony of how to write all your major characters. Bobby wins heart in his small yet impactful role.
And then comes the B. Praak with his voice to life the climax beyond 7 sky. I am not exaggerating when I say that it had more impact (or similar if humbly put) to that of Mann Bharya in Sheshah.
THIS IS NOT A CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE. But if Indian cinema needed a RRR, it also needed an ANIMAL. And nobody else could have done it better than SRV. Take a bow.
