As a fan of the first season, I thought this was a decent but not too strong premiere. I'm mixed about Carol lying being necessary, there's certainly a few glaring contrivances, the structuring is a little choppy, I'm not a fan of the flashbacks, and I didn't think the visuals quite held up to the first season's. However, I still appreciate the more gradual pace of this show, Ash seems likeable, and (like the first season) the zombies are executed with a lot more urgency here than other TWD shows. Their designs are freaky and they actually seem like they're fighting to eat their prey, so major props to Nicoreto and the french zombie actors for that. In knowing how the first season came together for a great finale, I'm optimistic for the remaining episodes of the season.
