If you're a Cage fan, you're gonna love the hell outfit this. If you're looking for a complicated plot or a 'deep', thought-provoking movie, go elsewhere. Me? I'm coming back in my next life as a pinball machine!
I watch a lot of movies, but I don't tend to write reviews. Like most people, I check out reviews on IMDb before I decide to watch a movie. I can't tell you how many movies I've been put off by horrendous reviews. In reality there are a lot of people out there who forget what a movie is there to do - to entertain! I read constant comments regarding how ridiculous and unlikely the scenarios in the movie are. How 'that just wouldn't/couldn't happen!'. This is NOT a documentary guys!! It's science FICTION! Try to leave your fact checking at the door when you watch a movie. Enjoy it! Let it do it's job and transport you somewhere else. For me, this movie did just that. It was engaging, I cared about the characters, the acting was spot on (I mean COME ON!! Jake Gyllenhall & Ryan Reynolds can't act all of a sudden?? Rubbish!). Give the movie a chance. It's entertaining. I held my breath while watching quite a few times. I cringed. I recoiled. Judge for yourself. Don't let the fact checkers spoil this fun piece of fiction!!
Like probably every other person who watched this movie, I did so due to the strong cast it boasted. If this movie consisted of a list of unknowns, I very much doubt many people would even give it a chance at all.
I've always been a big fan of Isla Fishers, but sadly this movie shows she has definite limitations. Horror/thriller movies are just not for her. She comes across completely false in her role, which should have had multiple layers and had the possibility of showcasing her acting talent. Instead it illustrated her discomfort within the world of serious acting. In chick-flicks and nice romantic comedies, Isla is perfect, but when a role calls for something a bit more than 1 dimensional, she struggles and becomes insanely irritating. Jim Parsons seems unable to rid himself of the shackles that is Sheldon Cooper. Will he ever be rid of that role?
This movie contains pretty much every stereotype that a film fan could expect. Even if you have never watched this movie before, you will know exactly where it's going. I have to say I rate this one as quite poor. It didn't scare me, make me jump, surprise me or immerse me. I was actually looking forward to the ending, which is never a good sign.
I would advise to avoid.
