This is a treat for the eyes. The scenery is lush, and it's beautifully shot. There is a retro-glam feel to this that's reminiscent of 1960s films.
The dancing is wonderful, and the dance scenes were my favorite parts. The tango rehearsal in water and the black & white dream sequence were standouts.
Will Kemp really is the star of this for me. He is a wonderful dancer, a good comedic actor and has loads of charm.
From other reviews, it seems some didn't care for Lacey in this. But her character was meant to evolve, and she does. From a stiff detective who is anti-social to quipping with Will's character. I thought they were a good pairing.
The mystery was the least of it for me. I think they were so many moving parts - the dancing, showing the scenery and building their partnership, that it was a bit hard to fit everything in. That said, there are some stellar parts to this movie. I would watch another installment.

This is set in current times, but it isn't a modern-day comedy. You won't find frat-boy humor here. And don't expect this to be knee-slapping funny. Although, I laughed out loud several times. Standout scenes that took place in a bar & Beth's writing classes, to name two, were very funny.
This is a throwback to movies pre 2000s when people had conversations in films. It's very much in the realm of an NYC Woody Allen film.
Smart writing, great acting and an interesting theme that makes you think. Is it OK to lie to a loved one if you're trying to encourage or spare their feelings?
The star of this movie is the ensemble cast. Not a weak link in the bunch. I enjoyed their interactions, relationships, insecurities, and, especially, their conversations.

Low on Christmas, high on stupidity, this movie lacks nuance.
The characters are over the top and silly. The mother and sister are like Chatty Cathy dolls stuck on one psychotic speed. Hannah is either trying to balance them out or is clinically depressed. She gets excited about very little. She just seems confused in most situations.
The murderer is obvious from the very start. There is no rhyme or reason for the person to be inserted into the story and the behavior is so obviously strange.
Hannah's wannabe boyfriend/detective matches her note for note on the boring front. They find a lot of crime, but they couldn't find a spark between them with both hands and a flashlight.
Maybe they are the actual killers, because they will bore you to death.
