This was Kurtzman and co attempt to use the talent of an amazing actor in Michelle Yeoh and the fact she is an Oscar winner to get viewers to watch this train wreck. It was painful. Boring. Stupid. A kick to the head for the loyal fans. The fact they won't give us what we want, or end shows like ST:Lower Decks and put this crap on instead, they are just killing the franchise. Stop giving us loyal viewers the middle finger and start listening to us. The scene where they are getting orders was something straight out of a FPS game. The writers were terrible, and they were from Star Trek Discovery so that made sense cause that was a load of rubbish. At the end of the day I don't know what hold kurtzman has over paramount and cbs but start reading reviews and listening to the fans cause enough is enough!
I went to see this movie being a huge fan of Michael Keaton, Tim Burton and the original film and was sooo looking forward to this after all they reviews and trailers and I have to say I was deeply disappointed. This movie was soooooooo slow and boring, the cinema I was in had a black out and I had to leave and was grateful to get a refund. I hate I have to write this, but this was such a disappointment. Tim Burton had everything there and it was let down by poor scripting, really slow development, and just poor acting. Eventually, when the power went out, it started to move and I was like "yes!! Finally" but it was heading to the last 20mins of the film. Visually, great to go back to the 80's, sound track, great to have Danny Elfman back with the baton. Do your self a favour and wait till it comes to streaming, it's not worth the price of admission. Sorry for the honest review.
Holding onto the fan base they created The Wachowskis or more specifically Lana Wachowski really didn't know what the convey during this film.
I, in the 90's, was a great fan of this trilogy and the special effects and cinematography were ground breaking and were something new, this just was visually what we've seen before and the plot was predictable.
What I did appreciate was there was some hope for this script in originality and there was a reflection on the world in its current state with dependency on technology, but I think that either Lana didn't know where she wanted to send this script, or WB executives had too much creative control and chopped and changed too much of the script.
I also appreciated the introduction of Neil Patrick Harris' character and thought that was a good portrayal, I also liked the fact that time wise they were respectful of original characters, and she utilised the modern technology at her disposal.
But the fact still remains this was a very low credit film. It was too long, too boring, too slow and something I really struggled to stay invested in.
If you're gonna to do a reboot, then do it well.
