It started out really interesting. It was suspenseful and the girl was creepy. The ascetics are pretty cool. Creepy setting for the movie, like the mansion, the rooms in it, etc.
However, at around the halfway point, it veers into an outright comedy, with a bunch of tongue-in-cheek jokes, and kind of loses its luster. It becomes too "over the top" and actually gets boring because it's an hour and 40 some minutes. Not to mention the cliché stuff. It gets cringeworthy, kind of.
Not saying it wasn't funny, or entertaining, cause it was, in a way. But I was geared up for more of a scary experience, and it just kept going and going.

The cinematography in this movie is really interesting. The colors, the rural setting, the time period, and the overall "feel" is unique and pristine. It adds a strange melancholy and simplicity to the movie.
I liked Mia Goth's character, Pearl. She was quirky and cute. It seems like she had quite the dysfunctional family. Her mother was rather mean to her. She was isolated on the farm. It's no wonder she had some issues. We can somewhat sympathize with her.
That being said, there seems to be hints of other movies, including Psycho(1960,) in this. I'm not sure it took anything away though. It was still good.
Overall, some might find it boring and slow, but if you're a horror movie fan, including slashers, you might like this. It has some dark comedy in a couple parts, but maintains a creepy vibe throughout.

I thought this movie was somewhat entertaining. Definitely not the best acting, but for a slasher type of movie it worked okay. A bit slow to start off, but about halfway through the killing begins and it gets better. The atmosphere was kind of creepy and if you enjoy slashers, you might like this. Overall it's a little low budget, and like I said the acting is kind of cheesy, but it had plenty of gore to satisfy fans of horror, particularly the slasher type. Also some of the scenery, such as waterfalls and rural forest areas, are nice. It satisfied my late night urge for a scary movie this Halloween season.
