This documentary is gorgeous. The documentary itself makes you feel as if you are in a beautiful but dark and painful dream - which is wild because that is her artwork, itself. I watched this completely sober and felt like I was in a trance - taken back into history while floating around in Frida's paintings and pictures. I've been a Frida fan for a while, and probably like so many people, I find the darkness of her life intriguing. Especially the pain of her and Diego's relationship. This documentary gives a lot of insight into that relationship, but it also makes it very clear that Frida is more than that relationship which is what I think she would have wanted. Thank you to the creators of this - it's innovative and beautiful. To the woman reading her diary, notes, etc. - seriously amazing job.
At first, I was wondering why the movie was so slow. Not much was happening. It seemed repetitive. After continuing to watch it, I started to understand (or think to understand) why the movie is made the way it is. You're supposed to feel what he feels to an extent. To live his life and to understand why certain emotions come out when they do. Because the movie is slow, you're able to build the emotions yourself. This makes me want to talk less and observer more because of how much I admire Hirayama.
The ending with the meeting at the river is a really special moment. Awesome.
This is a good movie.

This is a good movie.
The acting in this movie is insane. Absolutely incredible. Everyone. The plot and the dialogue is too much. It's all over the place. I frequently had to ask my friend what somebody said. I found myself zoning out when they would talk. I felt like I had 3 hours of elevated heart rate. It's a good movie with a lot of impact, but it felt a little lost to me. I also wish it put a heavier emphasis on the impact of what the bomb actually did in total vs. What it did to the men involved, however, I understand that was not the main purpose of the plot. I'm not a history or physics buff, so I had a hard time digesting this movie. Overall, it did bring a lot of awareness to what has happened and the people involved. Grateful for that, but I am not recommending this for everybody.
