This does not at all deserve the contempt that we see pouring out here. Of course regarding the dramaturgy it is neither Shakespeare nor Game of Thrones, but its naive aspect is extremely appreciable and despite a few round corners on the CGI work, the direction of photography is very beautiful. It's a very good little unpretentious series which can be watched without boredom, and which has the great merit of painting a twilight Rome, obviously partly imaginary and which has its charm despite the feeling of the green screens (this even contributes to this same charm). You have to maintain your child's perspective to appreciate this series for what it is: a beautiful atmosphere of Antiquity.
Some ease and platitudes in the final outcome of the plot (fortunately made up for by a charming deus Ex Machina), but a detective film which focuses on the majesty of its editing and the mystery of the characters without giving too much into easy psychology is rare enough to note it.
The very short epilogue after the resolution is beautiful, leaving no doubt about the fact that the film focused on the interiority of its protagonist and the reconquest of his dignity much more than on the whodunnit which served as a pretext and backdrop.
Del Toro is at the height of his extreme mastery, with this elegance and false nonchalance which characterize him so well and make him a fascinating actor to contemplate in every shot.

Finding Forrester + Unbreakable + Last Action Hero + Backdraft + Creed + Mad Max. Loose stacking does not fill Abyssal voids. Why not invest some of that money in screenwriters that are both classic and creative?
