  • Questioning my own sanity

The story is slow but enjoyable with unexpected turns. This movie being set in a foreign country where you can't understand half of what's being spoken made for all the more immersion, you feel like it's you who's out of place in Romania not knowing what the locals are taking about and constantly questioning what is real or just paranoia. Often similar movies are quite predictable but I can not say the same for this one, I really didn't know what would happen.

Oh also the acting was good along with the cinematography.

  • Wasted potential and weird hair.

It's very rare you come you across a fantasy story with a unique take on magic like is seen in Abigail and I honestly wish magic was combined with steampunk sciencey stuff more often. The cinematography and effects in this movie are beautifully done but sadly wasted, it had so much potential to be a great movie but alas the story's plot just jumps around and escalates so frequently that I feel I have ADHD when I look away for even a second. It's like they've tried to squeeze a nonexistent book or anime series into a single movie, and to be honest there's so much that could be built on that is should be made into an anime or multi part novel.

Also of course the dubbing over English with English was really bizarre, but I'm sure they did it for a reason. Maybe the actors accents are too heavy and the only work around was to dub but they didn't need to dub everyone. I watch enough foreign film and tv that dubbing doesn't phase me if done well, yes it wasn't great but wasn't the worst part of the movie either.

The most distracting thing I thought was why they chose to give Abigail a bowl cut/mushroom cut hair style, is it because the actress is an exmodel and so they tried to make her less attractive or perhaps to make her appear closer in age to what her character is. Alas we shall never know .

  • First episode was ok, now am bored.

The views expressed in this review are my own opinions based on my own taste.

So the first episode really draws you in with a lot of things happening but wow the show slows down oh so very fast. The writing is awful and smothers any potential the poor actors had of a worthy performance.

The character of Robert Langdon is especially terrible, they've just made him overly autistic with him just jumping to conclusion and being easily distracted. Poor Peter Solomon can barely even get a sentence out before Robert Langdon cuts him off repeatedly with his verbal communication issues. It's almost comical in a sad way.

This is the only time I have ever disliked a character portrayed by Eddie Izzard, it's not her fault it's just such an awfully written character. Even in the movie Get Duked (which I found to be quite terrible) Eddies character was at least entertaining and engaging throughout its entirety. This might be the first Eddie Izzard performance I will not fully watch.

(Note: as far as I can see I'm the only person who used female pronouns for Eddie, Yes the character she portrays might me male but you should respect her choice to be gender-fluid and also the pronouns she wishes to be referred by when you're not referring to the characters they've played).
