Bentley's family and Frank Wilcox's get together for a night of socializing and entertainment. Highlight is a silent film by the teenage girls. Noreen Corvoran plays Charlie Chaplin in the skit. Also good for a laugh, when someone grabs a wrench and tries to fix the sink himself. Peter contributes a joke to close things out.
Jamie is forced to go to school instead of working on the roundup with the Cartwrights. It's a mess for Jamie at school, getting stuck in the fifth grade. And the stress of a spelling bee is thrown on the boy and none of his family members show up to see him. Couldn't Hop Sing have watched him? Jamie takes Ben's prized rifle to impress bully George Paulsin. Paulsin played a bully in a Virginian episode too. Jamie has to face up to what he did. Seems unfortunate the Cartwrights weren't there to mentor the lad earlier. Still the mess is cleaned up in moving fashion by Ben. This is one of the Jamie episodes where the case for adoption is made quite well.
Ben and Joe go to Grant Park for timber business and come across thugs lead by Carl Reindel, who create problems for the community. And they won't help Ben when he gets hurt. The outlaws won't let Gregory Walcott help Ben either. The sheriff is reckless. Michael Landon gives a brilliant performance. And it's fascinating to see what it will take for people to get involved to bring justice and provide help to the ailing.
