A00 June 2024 First release of this document for NetWorker 19.11.
Product description

The NetWorker environment provides the ability to protect an enterprise against data loss. As the enterprise grows, so does the complexity and importance of protecting data. The NetWorker software provides the power and flexibility to meet these challenges.

The NetWorker software is a cross-platform, client/server application that provides the ability to remotely manage all NetWorker servers from a web-enabled, graphical interface.

Before installing this release, review the NetWorker Installation Guide, NetWorker Administration Guide, and other documentation. The “Additional resources” section lists the complete documentation set.

DELL - Note 2NOTE: Any references to the Data Domain systems and the Data Domain devices in the document indicate PowerProtect DD appliances.

DELL - Note 2NOTE: End of life (EOL) of ESRS is on 15 May, 2023.

New features

This section provides information about the new features and enhancements in NetWorker 19.11.

Table 2. New features in NetWorker 19.11

Functional area Feature description Summary of benefits
Azure Backup The NetWorker for Azure backup feature enables you to perform the following tasks:
  • Create snapshots of Azure VM disks, and then store those snapshots as backup in the Data Domain storage that are present in their data centers.
  • Use the NetWorker framework to schedule backups, apply retention to the save sets, clone the save set, and so on.
  • Extend the data protection feature to their cloud assets by using NetWorker.

For detailed information, see the Dell NetWorker and Azure VM Snapshot 19.11 Integration Guide.

The NetWorker for Azure backup feature delivers robust data protection, simplifies management tasks, and ensures security and availability of critical data stored in the Azure VM disks.
vProxy Added support for SLES 15 SP4 with NetWorker 19.11. N/A
Storage node NetWorker 19.11 and later versions do not support storage node for HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX. N/A
NetWorker server NetWorker 19.11 supports a dynamic file system backup method. It operates by coordinating a network of auxiliaries Fill-in clients and Primary clients.

This backup method is not available for the Azure File system (AFS).

For detailed information, see the NetWorker administration guide.

During recovery, the administrator has access to a consolidated view of the file system. This feature is designed to improve the efficiency and flexibility of the backup process.
RESTAPI NetWorker RESTAPI has introduced a new endpoint /op/configuredevices under storage nodes and unconfigured libraries to configure tape device and tape libraries as a part of the NetWorker device and libraries management. You can perform the following using the endpoint:
1. Scan and configure devices on a storage node.
2. Configure devices on an unconfigured library listed.
3. Once the configuration is successful, you can list the configured tape libraries, and retrieve the individual tape library details including the details of slots and devices.
NetWorker Server Starting with NetWorker 19.11, you can control the reverse DNS calls whenever possible. You can select the level of reverse DNS in the NSRLA resource.

For more information, see the NetWorker administration guide.

This feature provides the ability to control if reverse DNS lookups are done or not to better support network requirements.
Localization Added support for Japanese language for messages originating from the NetWorker server that are propagated using RESTAPI. N/A
NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI) Client and Asset Management – NDMP client creation in NWUI.

For more information, see the NetWorker Management Web UI Online Help.

N/A
NWUI Added support for multifactor authentication (MFA) for local users of NWUI. Administrator can enable or disable MFA for local users. MFA adds an additional layer of security by using Time-based One-time Password (TOTP).
NetWorker Server Added support for NetWorker server to use disaster recovery to block workflows. Once you set the NetWorker server to disaster recovery state, all workflows are blocked. Data protection activities like save, clone, nsrim, save set operations with nsrmm are blocked. If there is a NetWorker server restart, it bypasses RAP checks and the server state is preserved. Disaster recovery state is meant for recovery and since all the data protection activities are blocked, you can only perform recovery operation in the disaster recovery state of the server.

See the NetWorker product support page (Dell Support) for user documentation pertaining to the new features.
