Details of the training

The #OpenAfrica15 training is an introductory course for Wikipedians in Residence that took place from the 30th November to the 4th December 2015. The course was designed to support and expand the skill sets of existing Wikipedians across the continent. The delegates arrived with a batch of pre-course tasks, took part in the training. Then, once back in their home countries, each delegate decides for themselves which content-rich institutions they wish to engage with and how they wish to support and train local Wikipedians. Delegates were drawn from the following countries: Ethiopia, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. #OpenAfrica15 was conceptualised by WikiAfrica in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, and supported by Creative Commons South Africa.

Pre-course tasks

The delegates were given the following pre-course tasks to complete before they arrived at the training programme:

write at least one new article on Wikipedia relevant to an African country of their choice
research the state of the open movement in their country for a presentation at #OpenAfrica2015
research 10 possible content partners within their country
upload a minimum of 2 photos to Commons
