audiowhatsuality What a feat of a record. I usually dislike thrash, but it blends perfectly with the melodies and blackened aspects of the music. Fantastic melodies and vocals. Not a single dull second on the record. Only minus is that the programmed drums should've had a lot more work in the mixing phase, they sound very flat.

In lightless terror Far below Worthless vision Searching for the dimmest glow Ancient paths carved by bleeding knees Toward secret fire Sun and sky, be free Through claw marked chambers, aimlessly No choice but to go on The warmth on our skin or to death we bleed The only way out, the only chance Ascend from the chasms Insidious trance None have set their gaze Upon the infernal gate Buried in the remains Of those who could not outrun fate (Those) In the grip of desperation Through caves that lacerate and maim (Those) who seek reincarnation Those who cross the flame Will never be the same

Moon is high as I take it in A chilling breeze needling the skin Know not what to do nor where to go Astounded by the inconceivable Buckle and collapse Blinded and overwhelmed Drowning as the senses become attuned The flesh, the blood Now insignificant Marvelling at what I have done Stride the land Where my kin have never stood Empowered and strengthened with each day The body transforms as I shed my weaker self A new dawn This world is mine They said it could not be done Unscathed by the fire Escape from Subterrania Nothing stands in my way It all belongs to me The clearest sign Ascent to the divine Manipulated destiny Once doomed to fall Now this world will fall to me Reborn in flames and I was born to die at the right time

Strange new oppressor Bring the hammer down Hangs in the air, palpable Spanning millennia Arcadian bliss A tale ingrained Foolish and flawed Life is full of the devil Dripping shadow and suffocating dark Choking on smoke and ashes Dismantled utopia When it woke from the fire The world we knew was fucking lost It was absolute we were never alone Stoking the coals of the earth to make it turn Aphotic abyss of deformity and stone Bring the nightmare above, we join our interred Never to surface Never to gain sight Never to walk free or smother the light Endure its reign Remain human

Eyes to ground Mind set above All chances taken Buried in cloud Step by step Summit unclear Sweat upon obsidian A heat like one once known The way unspoken Spirit near broken A climb eternal Passage infernal Leaden limbs Failing sight Propelled by the rhythm Of a pounding pulse On coerced truths alone To the peak Ascend to descend The way unspoken Spirit near broken Stumble over ruptured ground Towering above all Immemorial Inverse familiarity A monument to past lives The underground above Through ash clouds and untouched scoria Panic grows Higher and higher and higher The approach Straight to the throat To find the way back under A gaping wound upon the earth A conduit, a second chance Redemption in numbers Penance paid for all left behind Free fall From oppressive peaks Free fall Chaos underneath Rebuild Hope in the escape Rebuild Undo cursed fate

I: Long Shadows In the end, in the void To fulfil a broken promise Violent reverie takes hold A bitter return To horrors left behind Time grows short and shadows long And I yearn for the wind, for the sun, for the rain What lies above To transgress as I have No absolution Deserve not to breath such air My place is here Primal panic flooding back The lightless terror Timeless battles etched in stone Death descendant A lineage traced through piles of bones The pursuit it must go on II: The Way Out Is Through Shrouded in unlight A startling reunion Presumed dead Sensing one of their own It cannot be Such mockery in one’s return Biding time They will see the light Paralytic awe Cling to every uttered word Vicarious Dare to dream Dread and hope As the pilgrimage begins Scent of blood once spilled Show us the way Through cavernous tombs The words are spoken Forever enshrined Chthonia's womb Aeon of suffering We leave behind Subterrania, hear my cry Fear not the crumbling earth The way out is through Subterrania, the end is nigh Fear not the ancient flame The way out is through III: Violet Skies Metamorphosis! Transfiguration of our kind Excruciating yesterdays out of mind Ignited within Imperium Reborn under violet skies

Deep in the underground lies a civilisation born of utter darkness. With no choice but to put their faith in the tales of old, generations have succumbed to the futile search for the fabled flame that is said to mark the way out. Until now…

From the depths of Dunedin, New Zealand, Miasmata emerges once more with Subterrania—a concept album steeped in myth and existential dread, where blistering fury collides with sweeping melodic melancholy. With multi-instrumentalist Mike Wilson (also of Sojourner, Orphans of Dusk) sharpening his blade and delving deeper than ever before, Subterrania is a harrowing and triumphant odyssey through sound and sorrow.

Bring the nightmare above!
