When it pours in Mumbai, the service roads or bylanes tend to get flooded for a while, as can be seen in the picture which was taken at Vile Parle (East), a suburb.

Rainy day

It has been raining heavily for the past 2 days disrupting all traffic. The rains have been accompanied by gusty winds uprooting trees at some places leading to road blocks.

Mumbai monsoon

Mumbai monsoons are here! Will post different monsoon magic sights during the next few days. The guy crossing the road seems to be headed for a tomato party!

Wet Saturday

A wet Saturday morning in Mumbai. This is in Juhu, a suburb of Mumbai, very popular for its beach side Hotels and restaurants. It is close to the airport too.

Build up

The build up to a rainy evening. But now it has been a couple of days that the rains have been playing truant and we have been having sunny days.

Rainy evening

The on and off rains in Mumbai this monsoons. The rains have been very moody this monsoons. Of course we still have another couple of months for the rain to fill the shortfall

Cat

Mumbai is a city of strays. This stray cat has made a home for itself in a building which is partly occupied by offices. By the look on its face you can see how offended it was to have been disturbed for a picture! Apparently it feeds on leftovers of the office goers meals. The people feeding are happy that no food is wasted and the cat is happy that it has adopted a good home!

Common Houseflies

The common houseflies are a real pest. Captured these two fighting over a grain of sugar. They buzz you off! They seem to take over Mumbai in the monsoons! Very irritating..

Military

In Santacruz (East), a suburb of Mumbai, in a place called Kalina is this Military camp/outpost. At the gates there is a tank on display and during the monsoons it is protected from the rains by a tent.

The Taj

Hotel Taj up close. Even the pigeons seem to love the service and the ambience here. Cliick on the picture to see it in its original size and see the birds too.

Taj (crown) of Mumbai!

The 2 prominent and most famous landmarks of Mumbai. One is the Gateway of India and behind it is the Taj Hotel. The boats in the foreground are used for joyrides or to ferry passengers to the Elephanta caves.

Building Boom

Mumbai is on a massive Construction trip. Everywhere you will find o ld structures being demolished and new skyscrapers being built. Only hope that infrastructure is also being taken care of to ensure a regular supply of power and water. This picture was taken in Prabhadevi.

The approach to the Mumbai Domestic Terminal 1A which is just a couple of kilmetres from Vile Parle (East) railway station.

Footwear

One can even pick up some footwear if need be after walking around the market outside the Vile Parle (east) railway station.

Shoparound

One can also do some shopping for sartorial elegance on the way outside Vile Parle station on the eastern side.

Vegetables

The fresh vegetables stalls outside the Vile Parle station on the eastern side. A real boon to the commuter who can pick up the veggies on the way home for a nice hot meal!

Fresh fruits

Fresh fruits on sale outside Vile Parle (East) Railway station. Outside every station there are stalls vending fresh fruits and vegetables to enable commuters pick it up on their way home from work.

Vilay Parlay

A view of the Vile Parle (pronounced as Vilay Parlay) Railway station on the eastern side. The local railway line connecting the city to its far flung suburbs runs south(city)-north(suburbs) hence every station has an eastern and western side to it. The crowds are missing as it is a Sunday afternoon. It is a suburb of Mumbai city.
