Just two months after moving in they were making big updates, including opening up this kitchen that was closed off from the rest of the house. Take a look at what they did. They started by tearing down the wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the living space. They also removed a bar-height counter that created another barrier to the kitchen.

The dining felt overwhelmingly large compared to the cramped kitchen. The kitchen had also been renovated in the early 2000s, and had a drop ceiling making the ceiling height a low 7.5 feet when it was originally nearly 9 feet. I knew the fabrication and installation of the steel beam would be expensive, but was not willing to sacrifice that element of the design. I think the end result was well worth it!"
