*Non-spoiler review*
Currently manga isn't finished, but as of the first volume it feels like a great read and I have it marked to check in once it gets more installments.
Story & Characters: 8 || The trope: Big lovey-dovey dog dude Noriyuki doesn't realize he has a crush for the smaller guy. Smaller guy thinks Noriyuki is trying to be intimidating or perhaps bullying him, but realizes there's no actual threat. I liked seeing the characters quickly get over this trope of intimidating larger character instead of dwelling on it like I see often. I'm glad it's addressed because it's normal to find larger people
...
intimidating, and we see them relax.
So we see a story that puts more time into light hearted comedy. The main character Suguruyu is honestly super relatable. Normal guy, normal problems. Big dog dude is a dork, harmless, and ends up being a very positive and helpful figure which I love to see.
Art & Presentation: 9 || Shiokara has done a great job of conveying emotions in a light-hearted way which is one of my favorite displays of storytelling. I also want to give props for Big dog Noriyuki having this very unique face (especially eyes and mouth shape) which does a great job giving this "I'm curious. I want to ask questions. What's this?" sort of appearance. I'm pretty sure this is why I keep calling him big dog.
Overall: 9 || Again this is an early review, but I really enjoyed this and I am VERY interested in seeing where Shiokara takes the story. I understand I'm having a pretty heavy bias here on this review, perhaps it's a story/character style that's endearing to me.
Happy reading, everyone!
