Synopsis

Leticia is the cruel daughter of the saintess, and her lust for blood is matched only by her penchant for evil—or so they say. In truth, she has suffered for years as nothing more than a scullery maid, being a mere scapegoat to keep her mother's image clean. And now, she is being forced to wed King Ditrian, a man whose kingdom reviles the saintess and her daughter in equal measure.

However, this is not Leticia's first life. In a past life, Leticia taught herself to love King Ditrian—but alas, the two fell victim to the schemes of the evil saintess. This time around, Leticia resolves to do whatever it takes to keep her beloved alive, even if that means sacrificing herself. holy what a good manhwa its not a otome isekai bt i went to read this ofc thinking this without reading synopsis and i was really surprised....

A breath of fresh content ,haven't read till date such manhwa in shoujo/josei genre. Reading every chapter gives me so much anxiety and anger bt fluffiness b/w couple heals me. Side characters are so meaningful in this particular manhwa for story progression.. personally i love this i recommend to everyone.

Art: art is also good it captures vile and dark atmosphere very well . 8/10

Enjoyment: i enjoyed this and pulled an all nighter to catch up lol. 8/10

Mixed Feelings

Mixed feelings on this one. On one hand I really enjoyed the world building and plot, but I was growing tired of the characters, romance, and the dialogue by the end. I will try to keep my thoughts as spoiler free as possible but not everyone agrees on the line so still giving a warning and marking the review as spoilers.

8/10 - World building - The setting actually felt unique. Powerful characters and gods were constrained by the rules of the universe. The history behind the Saintess and the Dragon's heir's was interesting and really felt like an authentic fantasy world. So many of these ... Manwha can feel like they have such bland worlds. The "Wings" of the Saintess I thought was an interesting power system that fit well with the established lore.

8/10 - Plot - While basic, I think the plot was certainly interesting. There were twists, turns, and betrayals. I bought into the characters actions and the story was not dragged out over 200+ chapters. I was always interested in what would happen next or how certain plot developments would happen.

5/10 - Characters - Unfortunately I feel like the characters are a pretty big weakness for this one. While I wouldn't say any of the characters were BAD, none of them were standouts to me. Nobody really had unique personalities. When the side characters weren't around the main characters they didn't talk about their own lives or interests, they were always talking about the main characters and how much they loved them. Because all the wings are supposed to love the Saintess inherently so once they 'awaken' they all become the same characters with the same motivations and behaviors. In 2 weeks I would be surprised if I remembered nearly any of the characters names.

5/10 - Romance - They basically fall in love with each other in their first meeting then pine for each other in their thoughts for the rest of the manhwa. There is very little growing together, or learning more about each other. There is never really any what's your favorite color, food, hobby, etc moment. They like one another because they are both attractive, know each other suffered, and are very nice people. Some may find this kind of romance cute as they eventually shower each other with affection, but it felt pretty hollow to me. If a realistic important romance is what you want I would skip this. If you don't mind a Sleeping Beauty or Little Mermaid type romance you can still enjoy it.

6/10 - Dialogue - Most of the Manhwa read like a twisted version of the Bechdel test. Where the main characters were constantly all the other characters talked about. There weren't really scenes of characters talking about their own lives, or scheming about something unrelated to the main characters. Like two of the Wings are supposed to be in love and we never see them talk, unless they talk about the main characters. And when the main characters WERE the focus, sometimes where would be nearly full chapters where the characters are just in their own head talking about how much they love the other. Or thinking about how they can't confess their love/secret to keep them safe. This might be fine once or twice in story, but I would seriously guess at least half of 20+ chapters have this sort of constant internal monologue repeating the same things over an over.

Overall I would probably give this one some where between a 6 or 7 depending on how you were to weigh whats important to you in a story. I don't regret reading it, but its certainly not going on my must read or favorites list.

To be honest, I don't know why this title has such high ratings. I can understand that someone who is just starting their adventure with manhwa might like it. However, for regular readers of Asian comics, it's hard to find a more clichéd story. To name a few overused themes:
*the main character went back in time after her death;
*before she went back in time, she realised that the main character didn't think as badly of her as she thought;
*corrupt church.exe
*the main character was actually the real saint all along #WhoWouldHaveThought.xD
Don't get me wrong, I myself believe that certain themes are repeated in different titles because ... they work, so it's all a matter of how authors use such plots. Unfortunately, they are poorly used here. Take, for example, the corrupt church. Everyone behaves in such an exaggerated manner that the only thing missing after the ominous laughter is a scene of twirling a moustache to tick off all the characteristics of a cartoon villain from children's fairy tales. The problem, however, is that this manhwa is definitely not for children, as it does not shy away from brutality, often unnecessary. This brings me to another thing I have a problem with in this title, namely the characters. The group of more important characters in Saving My Sweetheart are the so-called wings who serve the saint. As I mentioned earlier, we have a fake saint and a real one, and some of these wings start out on the wrong side of the fence, but then switch to the right side. And everything seems fine and dandy, but I find it hard to ignore the fact that some of them had no problem behaving immorally when they were on the wrong side. What's more, the manhwa doesn't criticise this later on (as far as I remember), blaming everything on a false saint and justifying the evil deeds of a particular faction with loyalty, which is shown here in a typically Far Eastern way that romanticises blind obedience. There are more scenes where theoretically positive characters behave in a questionable manner, and in itself this would not be a problem because no one is perfect, except that the reader sees it, but the manhwa seems to have more of an approach that good is not what is good, but what the character we consider positive does, and that seems to be a bit insulting to the reader's intelligence. Of course, there are also characters who have nothing serious on their conscience, but they are mostly either naive, stupid, or mentally ill (and I'm not even joking here), or boring, and this includes the main couple, where he suffers from the latter, along with the personality of a soggy cardboard box, and she should be getting commission from dentists, because she is so saccharine that just reading about her will give you tooth decay. Actually, in this huge cast, I honestly liked only one character, who is simply too well written for the mediocrity of the story in which he appears, and I would probably be less bothered by things here if he were the object of the main character's affection (by the way, the randomness of the pairing and the lack of chemistry between them is another problem). There is also too much narration for a comic book format. As for the artwork, on the one hand it is decent, but on the other hand, the design of some things breaks the immersion. For example, we have a kingdom located in the desert, and the style of clothing worn there could be worn by colonisers who came from colder lands, because no one can convince me that they started dressing so impractically on their own. Although this is just nitpicking, I wouldn't care so much if the story was engaging, but unfortunately it isn't. To sum up, Saving My Sweetheart is a weak title with a plot that you've probably seen somewhere else, probably done better, and with unlikable or boring characters. However, perhaps it shouldn't be dismissed by someone who is just starting their adventure with manhwa, and such people may give it a chance, but I advise others against it, it's a waste of your time, 2/10.
