Koibito Ijou is a story that initially made me skeptical, but as I kept reading, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I’ll admit, when I first started, I wasn’t fully convinced, but as the chapters went on, the narrative and character development really started to shine. After reading 170 chapters (100 main and 70 extra), I can confidently say that, overall, the story has more strengths than weaknesses.
One of Koibito Ijou’s biggest strengths is its character development. The story doesn’t drag things out unnecessarily, and the growth of the protagonists feels pretty satisfying. The romance also progresses gradually and, in a way, it’s

even heartwarming. That said, the beginning can feel a bit forced, especially with the unusual premise of two former porn actors falling in love. But surprisingly, the author handles this theme in a surprisingly wholesome way.
The artwork, though, can be a bit of a letdown at times. While it’s not exactly bad, the visual style often leans towards a more childish look, which might not be for everyone. That said, the author occasionally delivers some really beautiful, colorful panels that genuinely make you smile. These moments are rare, but they do manage to make the overall experience more enjoyable.
The real highlight of this manga, though, is its ending. It’s truly satisfying and wraps up the story in a way that makes the whole journey feel worthwhile.
In the end, Koibito Ijou is a story that, despite its flaws, stands out because of its sincere treatment of delicate themes and its satisfying character progression. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted story with a bit of depth, especially if you’re not too picky about the art styl; the story makes up for it.
