Huang Feng was a Hong Kong actor, scriptwriter and director born in Hefei, Anhui Province, China. He joined the film industry as an actor in 1952 and became a scriptwriter two years later. He had also worked as an assistant director for Yan Jun.

Later, Shaw Brothers’ production manager, Raymond Chow, promoted him to directorship. his directorial debut was "The Crimson Charm". In 1971, he joined Golden Harvest, where he directed the company’s first film, "The Angry River". In 1978, he founded a film company with Chan Sing and Angela Mao Ying.
