It has been a few month since my bazzite post and I have some updates

First, I’ve switched to CachyOS. The sort of half immutable nature and mix and match of different software sources was hindering my fun.

1. I can run XScreenSavers. My joy is immersurable.
2. CachyOS is more of a desktop and Linux power user experience to me. Also pretty much just use pacman.
3. I have not gone back to my 2.5Gbe ethernet, I’m just sticking with the 10Gb controller because it makes me feel cooler. I’m Linuxmaxxing, check me out, mogging (I hate myself for that, I’m really not part of the toxic manosphere)
4. I use KDE Plasma, so nothing like the filemanager crashes. Its incredibly stable and I perfer it now over Gnome shell.
5. Nvidia is still a crapshoot. Every driver update seems to break something else. So, I’m still on 580, because 595 has an issue with Elden Ring and Night Reign and I refuse to stop playing those. I’m hoping the 600 series will be ironed out and the DVXK12 ecosystem is also updated.

For fun, and sometimes to remember a big ol ten cent word I can use every so often and sound smarter or just worse of a person than I already am. You know, Grandiloquent. Kills two birds with one stone.

There might be an order to this of preference. This is also a list of what I have read, not what came out in 2025. I don’t think of things that way, its better to me to highlight gems of the past.



My technological stance has been, for a very long time with heavy biases of course, is to use the right tool for the job. My heavy bias usually involved FreeBSD because I like it so much.

However, as a person that has been a PC gamer since the 90’s starting with MS-DOS, I’ve accepted that by and large Windows has been the “best tool” for gaming and general purpose usage in the home setting.



Community catalog
    Disable images generation for Debian-based images and gradually move existing ones to a Bitnami Legacy repository.
    A focused set of more hardened, more secure images. These free images are intended for development and are only available on the “latest” tag. You can find them at https://hub.docker.com/u/bitnamisecure.
    Helm charts and container images' open-source code will continue to be maintained up-to-date and accessible on GitHub under the Apache 2 license.

Bitnami Secure Images
    Production-ready, enterprise-grade containers and Helm charts will move under the Bitnami Secure Images offering.
    Benefits include:
        Hardened, low-attack-surface operating system
        Continuous rebuilds with the latest security patches (SLSA Level 3)
        Industry-standard CVE transparency (VEX, KEV)
        SBOMs and compliance artifacts
        Enterprise support and LTS branches
        Access to the entire catalog of applications (over 280)
        Minimal distroless runtime images

Legacy repository migration
    All existing container images, including older or versioned tags (e.g., 2.50.0, 10.6), will be moved from the public catalog (docker.io/bitnami) to the Bitnami Legacy repository (docker.io/bitnamilegacy). This legacy catalog will receive no further updates or support and should only be used for temporary migration purposes.
    Exception: Images based on distros deprecated from the Bitnami catalog more than 3 years ago (tags: debian-8, debian-9, debian-10, centos-7, ol-7) will not be copied.
    Suppose your deployed Helm chart is failing to pull images from docker.io/bitnami. In that case, you can resolve this by subscribing to Bitnami Secure Images, ensuring that the Helm charts receive continued support and security updates. As a temporary workaround, you can upgrade to the same version and update the repository parameter for each container image to the Bitnami Legacy repository.

I’ve been an opensource advocate and daily user for my entire career. I have never taken the amazing people that make the tens of thousands individual projects for granted. I’ve always thought it was great we had benevolent patrons like IBM, Redhat, Google, Microsoft, etc…



What Happened?

This time, its the backend that is changing. Actually, it has already changed.

Atlassian set my repo on read-only mode. I really couldn’t update this site for a few months and I only now remembered this was a problem until this morning when I wanted to publish my latest Supermicro related article. This immediately made me think of going back to self hosting. For now, since self-hosting is still work, I’m going to migrate.



I decided to move my home server from the living room/tv stand, into my garage

Why? There was a request to appeal to asthetics. Michele has wanted our living room to look nicer, and all of my wires and devices have made that a complicated matter.

I bought a silverstone HTPC case when I moved to Boulder Creek. I had no other place in that small home to keep my server, and at the time, it was as nice as it got



I had the good fortune to travel with my mom to go visit my sister.

Roughly mid 2011, my sister moved from the CA Sacramento area to West Virginia and there eventually she settled in the Philadelphia area.

Traveling is time consuming and expensive. Multiply that by the size of your family and its only affordable once a decade. Most of my adult life, my finances and career have not allowed me very much time or money to do this sort of thing. Melissa and her tribe have come out west a few times. I think over the past decade it has been 3 times, but I did not get to see her every time.



I have a bit of feedback after a year of usage. Let me also state, that I have 3 of these in the house. Both my son and daughter built their own in the last year.

Every. Single. One. Of. Them. Has. Had. Key. Problems.

I feel it is a design flaw in the long run, to not have solder in keys like their previous revisions but contact junctions.



In-between dorking around with 10Gbit home networking, I did a real home project.

Michele’s business has grown enough that we can justify her moving out of the house and into her own place of business. This takes a chunk of income away, but, the idea is that we don’t have to have people come into our home to work. Also, if we have to leave, her business can continue to operate.



This post is a combination of a lot of little things that I have been working on over the last few months. This kind of goes all over the place, it is not ADHD related and I’m not having a manic moment. It just takes a lot of effort to do a post like this and I wanted to cover all of it at once.

Two things prompted all of this:


