I'm Jamie, a Geordie web developer. Been making websites since 1999, back when it was FrontPage, SwishMax, and praying it all looked right in Netscape.
My first computer was a Time PC, a big beige thing that started all of this. By 11 I'd built the school website. I ran forums, started daft little hosting companies from my bedroom, and ended up making my first open source contributions because the forum software was never quite right. Did my IT and Maths GCSEs a year early too, so all them hours on the computer worked out canny in the end.
Somewhere in there I built and sold GoingOutfit, a site where you shared outfits and earned style badges. Instagram before Instagram, honest.
I studied Web Development at college, gave uni a go and dropped out. Freelanced for local businesses, and worked remotely for a company in Canada from my bedroom years before that was a normal thing to do. Five years of Rails came after that, a stint with Angular, then Node, React and GraphQL took over.
Since then it's been developer experience all the way down. Headless commerce at Moltin before headless was a thing, a headless CMS at Hygraph, GraphQL at Grafbase and The Guild, short video tutorials at graphql.wtf, and a couple of years at Turso working on embedded databases.
These days I'm a DX Engineer at bunny.net, building CLIs, SDKs and docs, and still shipping side projects at daft o'clock in the morning.
