John is looking for inspiration for his printmaking and I thought it would be interesting to play with marks and compositions which could be the starting points of new drawings or which might possible translate into textiles. We gathered lots of tools and then made a few new ones, looking for anything which would make an unusual mark if dipped in paint: We decided to…

Henri Hagelberg on Instagram: "Adding interest with mark making 🎨👇

One of my favourite things in regards to my artwork currently is mark making. 🖌 What's mark making?

➡️ It's the act of creating lines, patterns and shapes on your artwork, adding depth and interest.

In addition to common tools such as combs, markers and paper towels, I like to use natural elements I've found from outdoors. 🌲

My pieces regularly feature organic marks created with for example twigs, pinecones and rocks. For my more urban / industrial pieces, I like to use items such as nets, bolts and corrugated cardboard.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about art. As always, I am happy to help. 😊
