National Geographic Travel on Instagram: "Time-lapse video and recorded ambient sound by @babaktafreshi | It was a wondrous morning in Puerto Rico, with a rare pairing of a comet and the moon an hour before sunrise on September 30. I was on Vieques island for the Life at Night Atlas—a National Geographic Society project—and to document the approaching comet A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas), which was visible in the morning sky. I could see the comet with unaided eyes, but the images revealed much more. On October 10 and 11, the comet will emerge in the evening sky and is expected to become much brighter. On the prime nights of October 12 and 13, when it is closest to Earth, the comet will be most visible in the Northern Hemisphere and the tropics.

National Geographic on Instagram: "Wildlife filmmaker @bertiegregory documented a pod of B1 Antarctic killer whales locating a resting Weddell seal. “With snow falling, flying the drone felt like being in space with stars whizzing by. Having found the seal, the pod then began to spy-hop to size up the target and figure out how to get it into the water,” Gregory says. “The intelligence of these killer whales is spine-tingling.” Watch #AnimalsUpClose with Bertie Gregory, now streaming on @disneyplus, to see what happens next. Cape May on Instagram: "Experience the Magic of Monarch Migration: Cape May’s Fall Spectacle. 🦋

The perfect time to see the monarch migration in Cape May is from mid-September through October. Peak migration typically occurs in early October, when thousands of monarch butterflies pass through the area as they head south for the winter. Cape May is a key stop for monarchs due to its coastal location, providing ideal conditions for resting and feeding.

Video Credit: National Geographic. Just a heads-up, this video of monarch butterflies wasn’t filmed in Cape May. It was actually taken from the National Geographic website!"
