Lilac sunset skies over Dunstanburgh Castle 💜 Once the largest castle in Northumberland, Dunstanburgh is still a magnificent sight even today! Built in the 14th century between the villages of Craster and Embleton on part of the Great Whin Sill which took advantage of the site’s natural defences and the existing earthworks of an Iron Age fort. The castle formed a strategic northern stronghold in the region during the Wars of the Roses, but never recovered from the sieges of these campaign...
