Some of these lessons I learned the hard way- don’t be like me! 1. Instead of a pencil, use a chalk line to mark the walls where you would like your dado rail to go. Especially up the stairs! 2. Plan how many picture frame panels you would like to create and draw them on the walls BEFORE you stick down any moulding. 3. If you don’t have a professional mitre saw to cut your wood, a mitre box saw or a junior hacksaw can still get the job done! 4. Always use a spirit/digital level to make sure your panels are straight. Do NOT trust your eyes alone. 5. @at_home_with_betty on Instagram: "Stair Panelling Tips - How to fit a dado rail at the top of the stairs This was my first stumbling block when I started the process of panelling our stairs. I initially cut the dado rail right to the edge of the wall and found that I couldn't then get the connecting horizontal piece to fit 🤦‍♀️ After giving it some thought I realised that this was the only way to get around the problem! The same solution will apply to the panels underneath the dado rail, a job which is on my list for the next few days. (To some this might be obvious but it had me completely stumped so hopefully it might help others taking on the same project!)
