USS Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat. Originally launched October 21, 1797, the USS Constitution was built at a time when wooden ships had a service life of ten to fifteen years; however, when the Navy made known plans to scrap her, public outcry saved "Old Ironsides," as she was affectionately called. Now serving as a museum, she takes one "cruise" yearly for demonstrations and to dock her on the opposite side to maintain even weathering. 2011 Uss Constitution, Old Sailing Ships, Ship Of The Line, Clipper Ship, Merchant Marine, Tall Ship, Sailing Vessel, Wooden Ship, October 21
