Becs | Mending Tools & Supplies ✂️ on Instagram: "Day 2 of 'What I Wish I Knew When I Started Mending' ...and today is all about tackling those holey T-Shirts 👕   Stretchy garms can be challenging to fix up, but my fave method by a country mile is a Seed Stitch 🌱 + Stretch Patch 🔳 combo.   The patch provides coverage which is then held in place using the super stretchy SEED STITCH.  It works well on small & medium size holes 🕳 and in fact for teeny tiny holes you can skip the patch element altogether if you'd prefer.  For best results, use a fine needle with a round point (like a 40mm ballpoint) and fine mending thread (like sewing machine cotton or perhaps a couple of strands of embroidery floss). The goal of mending is always to try to camouflage the mend enough to where you can’t tell it was mended in the first place. 

Another important tool in mending is understanding the material itself. Ask yourself, “what am I working with here?”With this mend, it was a lightweight woven cotton material. By following the warp (vertical strands) and weft (horizontal stands) to repair the hole and using a water soluble stabilizer that dissolved later on, I was able to recreate/clone the fabric with the thread and blend or “trick the rip” into looking like the actual material. Pretty cool eh?
