The human eye is a complex organ supported by several systems and structures functioning together to provide us with our sense of sight (see Fig. 1). This activity focuses on how the principles of geometric optics apply to the images formed by the human eye.

This image depicts the six muscles inserting on the eyeball. The innervation of these extrinsic eye muscles are caused by cranial nerves III, IV, and VI. The four rectus muscles are the superior rectus, lateral rectus, inferior rectus, and medial rectus. The two oblique muscles are the superior oblique and the inferior oblique.

Persistence of myelinated nerve fibers is a condition where myelin, which typically sheaths the optic nerve, extends abnormally into the retinal nerve fiber layer. This can appear as white, opaque patches on fundus examination, often with feathery edges.
