We meet  Henrietta. And her family is somewhat mentioned at the beginning of this book. We also met her dad. A new veterinary assistant has come to check on the Millers' horse, Jack. Could there be a romance in the making as Nickloas and his sister come to town to help their grandfather?

We also meet Rosy, and she is seeing someone special, who is a friend. Will they get married or not? However, this book appears to be centered on Hen, a nickname for Henrietta. But Will Nickolas and Henrietta happen to fall in love? Bylers need some help and some friends in the area. Will Leorna find love for what she does, and will Nickolas find love with the fiery girl?

Leorna wants to make some friends in the new area, and Hen may be one of them. Is there a reason for Hen's father to be so disappointed or harsh with his oldest daughter?

We see Nickolas cross paths with Hen quite a bit. But will they seem to understand each other?
Adam thinks he knows what's best for his daughter, Heneretta. But does know her. Or does he think he knows Hen and make her happy?
Hen seems to be missing her mom, and she seems to be clashing with her father.

Research for A Daughter’s Choice leads to goats nips and cow cuddles

By Kelly Irvin

Each time I come up with a new story concept, I’m super excited about it. When a publisher lets me know the “pub” committee has approved a contract for the story, I get even more excited. Then I sit down at my computer, open a document, and zoom, my fingers take off on the keyboard . . . . nope . . . not exactly.

What really happens is that I suddenly realize this fabulous story idea will require a ton of research. In the case of A Daughter’s Choice, featuring goat lover Henrietta “Hen” Miller, I needed to be an “expert” on raising goats and tending to a horse with colic and making candy from goat’s milk, and delivering a foal that isn’t positioned correctly (and treating a crotchety cat!). The story also required a deep dive into several other kinds of livestock, veterinarians’ clinics and vet assistants, and facets of the Amish faith that I wanted to make sure I addressed properly.

Much of this information is easily available on the Internet and in the many reference books about the Amish I’ve acquired over the years. But on-line research doesn’t allow me to get up close and personal with key characters in my story—the animals. I especially wanted to hang out with some goats. To my surprise, I had trouble finding a place in the San Antonio area where I could interact with these frolicking creatures.

Then my daughter-in-law came to the rescue. She found Cavalry Farm, a nonprofit organization that takes in and cares for all sort of livestock animals in little Adkins, Texas, just south of San Antonio. They have frequent open houses where—for a nominal fee—the public can visit, pet, feed, and yes, cuddle some of the animals. My response? ROAD TRIP!

The farm is home to a small herd of pygmy goats as well as larger dairy goats. I have never been close to a goat, so I didn’t know what to expect. They were as curious about me as I was about them. They crowded around me, climbed up my rollator, chewed on my purse strap, nibbled at the zipper on my shorts’ pocket, and prodded my hands with their noses. I had a fabulous time!

The volunteer who stayed with us in the goat pen shared all sorts of tidbits about the care of goats. My grandson, who’s two and a half, chatted with them. I took lots of photos for marketing purposes. Most importantly, I gained an understanding of why Hen is so enamored of goats. They’re lively, friendly, and determined to learn all about their visitors.

Of course, Hen isn’t simply a “goat whisperer.” She also loves horses, which leads to her first encounter with vet assistant Nicholas Byler, a newcomer to Smicksburg, PA, and many other animals, including cats and dogs. At Cavalry Farm, I also was able to visit with

Research/Kelly Irvin/2

horses, pigs, donkeys, alpacas, chickens, turkeys, and cows. I’m from Kansas so I’ve had my share of livestock sightings. However, I’ve never been offered an opportunity to snuggle a cow. Who knew that is a thing? My farmer family members will find it humorous, I’m sure.

The cows lounge on the grass just waiting for a visitor to come along, sit beside them, and snuggle up. It’s so stinking cute!

No cow snuggling occurs in A Daughter’s Choice. However, I can assure readers there is plenty of fun with a runaway puppy up for adoption, goats on the loose tearing through a wedding prep tent, and more. The story also moves beyond the humorous as Hen overcomes past losses and grief , allowing her to make important choices about her future. Nicholas too has to make hard choices about his occupation and his life as a faithful Amish believer. What they decide will determine if they find their happily-ever-after!

This story is sweet and cute. This book is about a small woodpecker that goes searching for a new home. However, he seemed to be seeking help in finding his new home.

This book is suitable for children in the reading range or grade level of 3-4. The pictures are well-drawn and lovely. I really enjoy the book and story. There are also several lessons for children to learn.

Receiving advice from friends and being polite are essential skills that all children should learn. This book does show that and makes it enjoyable ot read.

Will this little woodpecker find a home good for him? He goes on an adventure in search of his new home.

We meet the Reeds. Mark and Elizabeth. But it turned out wrong.
Someone may have set up Mark, but why? Could it be that it has to do with the Reed Family or something else to cause the Reed family name or town?
We meet a few more characters and enjoy the mystery of why this happened. I also appreciate the Christmas theme.
Well, we get some action and twists in this little black ops, and things start to move.
What was it that they wanted from Elizabeth? Why did they want Mark out of the way? Reading this gets more interesting by the page.

Khahari discovering the meaning of Autism is an excellent educational book for children. It is simple and explains the emotions of Khahari, his friend Omari, and Omari's cousin Jayden.

The boys decide they want to play. Kharhari goes out to play basketball with his friend Omari. When they do, Omari introduces Jayden to Khahari, and they start playing. However, a misunderstood happens when Jayden goes after the ball and takes it inside. Will Khahari and Omari play again, or will a misunderstanding get in the way?

When playing, misunderstandings happen. Things go awry. Will learning about something you do not know and trying to have fun help Khahari and Omari come to an understanding? Can they help teach Jayden how to share by taking turns and playing a game?

As the story unfolds, the children learn and understand each other. This book is about Khahari, Omari, and Jayden. It shows that children with autism are not so different in their desire to play. They just have a unique way of understanding. By asking questions and learning about themselves, your child can help educate all children. Khahari is learning about autism, and Jayden is learning about sharing and taking turns. And together, we're all learning about empathy and inclusivity.

Omari and Khahari, through their understanding of the challenges and struggles of autism, strengthen their friendship and help each other out. This is a lesson all children can benefit from. The author has made it simple and easy to understand and read, ensuring that the journey of learning is enjoyable for children. And the best part? The fun and learning don't end with the book. They continue in real life, where understanding and empathy can make a world of difference.

This book is a collection of silly questions that present two options and ask you to choose one. It is structured into ten chapters, and the author provides some questions that are easier to answer.

Children will enjoy this book as they can ask others their responses. The author also includes some ridiculous questions you may or may not want to choose between.

I enjoyed this book and believe it's not just for kids. While some silly questions provoke thought and can lead to exciting discussions with your children. There's also plenty of laughter to be had with this book.

Some questions made me think, and I explained the reasoning behind my choices. Other times, I would explain why I wouldn't choose either option. While there were some questions I liked, there were also some that I wouldn't say I liked either answer for.

This book is perfect for fun holidays and other occasions. If you're having a dull day, you can pick up this book and ask someone around you what they would choose.

Book Review: A Small Case of Murder

A Small Case of Murder
Author: Lauren Carr
Publisher: Independently Published
Publisher Date: 2011-4-26 (324, Pages, Paperback)
Genres: Mystery, Murder Mystery, Fiction, Crime Fiction, Mystery Thriller
Series: Joshua Thornton Mystery #1
A Small Case of Murder is set in the quaint West Virginia town of Chester, where everyone knows everyone, and there is never a secret that someone doesn't know. In such an intimate town, how many suspicious deaths can be left unquestioned?

Following his wife's death, Joshua Thornton leaves a promising career in the U. S. Navy's JAG division to move across country with his five children into his ancestral home. While clearing out the attic they find a letter written to their grandmother postmarked 34 years ago. In the letter Lulu Jefferson wrote "...Remember that dead body we found in the Bosley barn?...I saw him today...I went to talk to the reverend and there was his picture on the wall." What dead body? His interest piqued, Joshua asks about Lulu and finds that in 1970 she died on the same day that she penned the letter implicating the pastor in an unreported murder. There is much more to this story than a 34-year-old letter. It's a 34-year-old mystery Today, a double murder has the whole town under a microscope.

The state attorney general appoints Joshua special prosecutor to solve the crimes. In a small town where gossip flies as swiftly as a spring breeze it is impossible to know who to trust. Asking simple questions about events long ago could prove to be deadly for Joshua and his family. Read this Author Revised Edition of Lauren Carr's debut mystery novel. It's the same GRAND mystery, revised and edited for re-release by the author herself

We are introduced to Joshua Thornton and his five children in chapter 1. The prologue brings Lulu Jefferson's view and a little bit about his parents. We are also introduced to Tad. There is a catch as Joshua moves his family to his former hometown.

He seems to get caught helping someone who tried to kill his cousin Tad in a church, and it seems to bring more to be involved. All when he goes to the state attorney general. It is more as his murderer with his arrangement and ends up murdered along with Beth Davis.

There is a twist when things get more complicated, and the state attorney general decides to ask or request Joshua to become a Special Prosecutor for the case of Vicki Rawlings and Beth Davis. They think he got the trust of the citizens of his hometown. Will he take the offer, or will he not?

Joshua is working with a police officer and a local reporter. What appears to be one thing is that his children are so like him that they want to join in and protect him. Does Joshua wish to be a dad and raise them, or will he hide from them and not send this child to live with their extended family? How will he decide to deal with the life he was chosen for?

Lauren Carr's Mysteries and stories are good. However, this one is less dense when it starts at the story's beginning. However, the action is improving, with this one being when Joshua and his five children are introduced. They are about school age. This book gets better as it goes along.

This is probably when she was starting to write these kinds of stories. This is their second series, so it has improved dramatically since. I love this one. I only wish I knew more about what happened to Valerie and what caused her to pass away. Then Joshua moved and settled in his hometown with his lovely five children. But other than that, it is a good starter book or series to get into her books, Along with Mac Faraday Mysteries.

Do you sometimes have a grandma that you see that comes and stays with you and your family? You want to help her out by doing things or at least trying. Well, this book, The Care and Keeping of Grandmas is a sweet story about a granddaughter and her grandma when her grandma came to live with her and the family.

Though she is this in the prefer of her view and learning along the way. These are her tips throughout the book to help others and children. The pictures and story are done well.

I like the story; each person can change the person for themselves, even though this one is about a granddaughter and her grandma. You can picture a grandson helping out his grandma. Though this book. It shows that you need to allow time and let the person suggest, and they will ask for help rather than have it forced upon them.

Grandmas are something special to have, and I enjoy the grandma I have left. However, I loved both of my grandmas when I had them. This book shows that grandmas can do things, and some live in different places; we should still be around to help when needed.

This story shows the special bond a grandchild has with their grandma. However, the child learns when to lend a hand and when to let her do her own thing. But be there when you need to be there. This story shows the love and care bond between a grandchild and a grandmother. Suppose the grandma needs to move in and feel at home. This book tells that in a funny and fun way, a picture book. Have you heard of " How to Babysit a Grandma"? This book puts a little humor and a fun spin on it.

Mother Melania is the Abbess of Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA. She grew up in a house that always had tons of children around, her poor parents had to read to her till they were hoarse, and from the moment she learned to read, she always had her nose in a book. So, it was only natural for her to grow up to write children's books.

She has written three series of specifically Orthodox children's books - all in verse - which celebrate the high points of God's work of salvation in the Person of Christ. Her remaining series teach children the virtues in a fun, non-preachy way.

Fearless and Friends chronicles the lives of Fearless the Fireduck (think 'fireman,' except that he's a DUCK) and Charity the Church Mouse and their friends, who get in and out of trouble based on the wisdom (or lack thereof) of their actions.

The Adventures of Kenny and Scooter is a minimal-word series featuring six-year-old Kenny and his irrepressible Boston Terrier Scooter, who take turns getting into trouble and rescuing each other from their foolish antics.

With all her books, Mother Melania is trying to celebrate virtue and God's saving work in our lives.

Are you looking for a good friendship and a book that educates about someone with autism or special needs? Well, Let's Talk! Going to the Zoo is a good one with that in mind. Those that have autism are not that much more different on the outside than any other adult or child. They act differently. They may even think differently.

The girls start together and draw their favorite animals. They both have not gone to the zoo. They would like to go. One day their daddies decide to take them. What kind of adventure will Emma and Harper have when they go to the zoo.

This book teaches about bullying or at least try to educate about pointing and staring, instead of Harper fighting with them or saying much.; As she gets more upset about Emma getting picked on at the zoo while looking at some monkeys. What Emma did when she was excited brought a bit of attention to her. How will Harper defend her friend? Will it work? Harper seems to decide to help educate the children that are bullying or picking on Emma cause she is acting differently.

Harper is confused when a group of children starts pointing and laughing at Emma while she is being excited. How will Harper stop the bullying? When the daddies jump in by making silly poses and acting like monkeys. Will this help Harper and the other children get along? There seems to be fun, and being silly can help educate children or a child about bullying, and acting different is okay.

Children will learn a valuable lesson and still have fun reading this book. Children will enjoy the pictures that stand done throughout this book. Children will learn that bullying is not okay but learning to understand and educate is an excellent way to start. This book and Let's Talk! A Story about Autism and Friendship is terrific to have on your child's bookshelves or even your own if you have grandchildren. Teaching children to learn to understand and to educate is an excellent way to realize that being different or acting differently.

You can't move to the next chapter of your life without tying up loose ends in the previous.
True crime blogger Erica Hart starts a new chapter in her life with a bang when a dark shadow darts into the mountain road to send her SUV off a cliff and to the bottom of Deep Creek Lake. Spencer’s newest addition to the police force Dusty O’Meara assumes it was a bear. Erica is not so sure.
Soon afterwards, contractors discover Konnor Langston’s body at the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool at the new summer home of Mac Faraday’s son.
With Police Chief David O’Callaghan away on paternity leave, Deputy Chief Dusty O’Meara must lead the investigation in his first murder case since moving to Spencer. Not only does Dusty have to work under the shadow of the legendary Mac Faraday but he also has to match wits with Erica, who is determined to find justice for Konnor, her childhood friend.Amazon
Mac isn’t so difficult. Even Gnarly, the town’s canine mayor, is manageable if his authority is well-respected and he is kept entertained.
Erica Hart, Dusty finds, is more of a challenge. It wouldn’t be so difficult if she wasn’t so irresistible.
Are you looking for some fun cold cases to solve? Maybe even a bit of mystery to solve with a twist. Lauren Carr's latest book "Shadow of Murder" does just that. We get a prologue full of mystery and murder. You will be wondering how a gunman kills an entire family. Is it real, or is it not. You will have to read or listen to find out for yourself.

This book had me going and wondering who would kill a whole family, including a law officer. There are a few main characters. We meet two of them right at the beginning of the story. Erica and Dusty.

I love the fact that mysteries are going on throughout the book. I enjoy that Erica and her friends seem to need to help the new local deputy chief. David gets some time with his wife and newborn. I recall David meeting a woman and a little boy I thought was introduced to him as his son?

Mac is pulled into a Chao once he returns from Europe with Archie. His son Tristain brings to life the disappearance of a missing person, a woman named Konnor Langston. Why did she disappear? It goes on from there. There are many mysteries and curses and stories of witches as the book goes on. I wonder who killed Erica's parents and why? Who taking advance of Larry? Why were Erica Hart's parents killed, and will Erica get justice for her childhood friend Konnor?

If you are looking for a good versus evil? This book has it. Once a dark shadow tries to harm Erica. Dusty seems to fall for a bird guiding him to help Erica. Will Erica and Dusty get together? There may be some romance for more than just two folks in the book. How will Dusty's father-law decide to find some love as well? There seems to be the talk of angels and demons? They're a bit supernatural in this book; that is a nice change to the story.
