As the result of the complaints made by Bob Trobich (NWA executive producer), David Marques (Los Angeles, CA), and Blue Demon Jr. (“NWA Mexico”), CMLL changes the name of its “NWA” world titles in the light heavyweight, middleweight, and welterweight divisions to CMLL Historic titles. Prior to the name change, however, CMLL president Paco Alonso has registered the trademark “National Wrestling Alliance” in Mexico on 2010-07-30 and soon renames the championships to NWA Historic titles.

R. Bruce Tharpe, an NWA member in Brownsville, TX, files a lawsuit against the NWA and its parent organization Pro Wrestling Organization, LLC as well as several NWA members personally, alleging that the NWA is committing insurance fraud by having a policy that designates it covers gatherings for 100 members when obviously there have been events drawing well over that amount.

“Seven Levels of Hate”, a 7-match series between the world heavyweight champion Colt Cabana and the ex-champion Adam Pearce, kicks off.

As a part of the settlement of the lawsuit filed in January against the NWA, the ownership and management of the NWA brand was transferred to the International Wrestling Corp, LLC, established by Bruce Tharpe, Chris Ronquillo (Houston), and Fred Rubenstein (New Jersey). The new regime replaces the the membership system with the brand licensing.
10-27 Berwick, Victoria, Australia
The final match of “Seven Levels of Hate” between the world heavyweight champion Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana takes place. NWA, however, does not approve the title match because it is promoted by NWA Warzone Wrestling, a former member promotion unlicensed by the new NWA regime. Cabana defeats Pearce, who vacates the title after the non-title match.

An 8-man elimination match for the vacant world heavyweight title is held. Damien Wayne is scheduled to win; however, NWA president Bruce Tharpe makes the last minute change and adds Tokyo Monster Kahagas to the match. Kahagas last eliminates Wayne in what is now a 9-man match to win the vacant title.

“Parade of Champions: A Tribute to Paul Boesch” is held. Former world heavyweight champion Kahagas defeats Byron Wilcott to win the North American heavyweight title. IWGP champions Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer) defeat Kingz of the Underground (Scot Summers & Ryan Genesis) to win the world tag team title. In the main event, Rob Conway retains the world heavyweight title by defeating Chris Masters.

In the first ever NWA world heavyweight championship match at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s annual “Wrestle Kingdom”, Satoshi Kojima defeats Rob Conway to win the title.

Bruce Tharpe becomes the sole owner of the NWA when Chris Ronquillo leaves the company.

Vendetta Pro Wrestling, a California licensee promotion, holds “Casino Royale”, a 2-day wrestling show preceding the annual Cauliflower Alley Reunion. National heavyweight champion Jax Dane defeats North American heavyweight champion Tim Storm in a title unification match. In the semi-final, Santana Garrett retains the world women’s title by defeating La Rosa Negra. Steve Anthony defeats the world junior heavyweight champion Jushin Thunder Liger to win the title.

Verne Gagne, the former world junior heavyweight and United States heavyweight champion, passes away.

Vendetta Pro Wrestling, a California licensee promotion, holds “Casino Royale”, a 2-day wrestling show preceding the annual Cauliflower Alley Reunion. World heavyweight champion Jax Dane defeats Tim Storm to retain the title. Steve Anthony retains the world junior heavyweight title by defeating Apoc (Adam Asher). The Iron Empire (Rob Conway & Matt Riviera) defeat Shane Ballard & Shannon Ballard to retain the world tag team title.

Lightning One, Inc., headed by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, acquires the NWA brand from International Wrestling Corp, LLC as well as the right to use the Houston video library.

NWA terminates the affiliations of all the licensees, ending its territory system. All titles except the world heavyweight title are declared vacant although Jazz is later reinstated as the women’s world champion.

Nick Aldis defeats Tim Storm to win the world heavyweight title during a Combat Zone Wrestling card.

04-14 Wenzhou, China
In the first ever NWA world heavyweight title match in China, Nick Aldis retains the title by defeating Colt Cabana, the last champion to vacate the title at the time.
09-01 Hoffman Estates, IL
“All In“, the first ever wrestling event outside WWE or WCW to sell 10,000 tickets since a AAA event in Los Angeles, CA on 1993-08-28, takes place at Sears Centre Arena. Cody, son of Dusty Rhodes, defeats Nick Aldis to become the first ever second-generation NWA world heavyweight champion.
10-21 Nashville, TN
The 70th anniversary show is held at Tennessee State Fairgrounds Arena. In the main event, Nick Aldis regains the world heavyweight title from Cody (Rhodes).

The “Crockett Cup” tag team tournament is held for the first time since 1988. In the final, the Villain Enterprises (Brody King & PCO) defeat Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs to win the vacant world tag team title.
