Ontbijtkoek - the literal translation is “breakfast cake”, but Dutch spice cake describes it just as well. Favored by both young and old, a slice of ontbijtkoek with a lick of butter is an integral part of the breakfast table, the 4 o’clock tea or coffee break or strung on a string for a game of “koekhappen”. If you love the flavors of cardamom, ginger, coriander and cloves, this sticky cake might be just the thing for you!
