Eyes pumpkin

Happy Halloween everyone! Once I started carving pumpkins this year I kept coming up with ideas for more. Here's a giant eyeball pumpkin I carved with wire eyelashes. I wanted it to look correct when it was lit up so I carved it in the negative so that the thinnest parts would be the most lit up. And here it is keeping watch at my house!

the result of about one and a half hours of work. pretty happy with it! i need to get a smaller candle though. his eyeballs are held in place by toothpicks, which are more visible than i hoped they would be, but that's okay. i had wanted to try the "scrape" method on his eyes (where you remove part of the surface but don't go all the way through), but i didn't have the right tools for that.
