a quilted table runner with blue and brown designs on it's edges, sitting on a wooden surface

Hello Everyone, I love to receive emails and pictures from quilters around the country who've made my patterns. When I opened this email from Dena in Wisconsin, my jaw dropped, and I uttered an audible gasp. This is her gorgeous creation of my Heritage pattern. Here's Dena's email: I just wanted to say thank you for this beautiful quilt pattern! It was very easy to follow. It is the first quilt I have finished and kept for myself! I tend to make quilts and give them as gifts. Some I have…

a red and white quilt on a wooden deck next to the water with ducks in the background

This is Marg’s Sampler quilt which was a guild project from 2005 and I have quilted many of these quilts over the years. Marg asked for light custom quilting to highlight the piecing. I tried a double line piano key border which I really like to quilt as your mainly traveling in the outer edge and not in the inner border seam like with normal piano keys. Free hand curls in the sashing and lots of CC’s, loops and curls in the blocks. Quilters Dream Blend batting and So Fine thread.

a close up view of a quilted star

Hello Everyone, Here are images of two more new blocks for Heritage. It takes me awhile to select just the right fabrics. I don't want them to be too matchey, matchey. I want them to be unique and be able to stand alone on their own within the quilt. There are 49 star blocks in the quilt, giving me 49 chances to get it right! I can't knock it out of the park every time, but I can try! I have a couple more that need to be sewn that are on the block layout sheet. Maybe this afternoon I will…

A Harriet Powers Quilt Made in China? Not so Fast, Say the Quilters - Quiltfolk Washington Nationals Quilt, Middle Tennessee Quilts History, Antique Quilt History, Types Of 19th Century Quilts, Historical Quilts, American Quilter's Society - Gathering Quilt, International Quilt Festival, American Quilt, Quilt Festival

Harriet Powers is one of America’s most famous quilters. Her two surviving quilts from the late 1800s are considered priceless treasures of American art. But there was a time—in the early 1990s—that the Smithsonian Institution flat-out underestimated the fame and adoration that American quilters held for Harriet’s quilts. They learned quickly just how far quilters would go to protect their most treasured historic quilts, and the episode that followed is a fascinating and little-known chapter…

a bed with a quilt on top of it

Hello Everyone, Last night after finishing two sides of the binding, I tossed Heritage on the bed to get a good look at it in different light. Why is it the phone takes a better picture than my 'real' camera? It seemed as though I would never get all of the binding sewn on the quilt. Now for the hand stitching. I actually love to work on the binding. It is very relaxing and gives me a sense of completion. I guess I'm going to have to make another Heritage. One for traveling to shows and…

the quilt is made up and ready to be sewned into someone's home

Hello Everyone, Just look at this version of my Heritage pattern made by Kate Phillips. It's gorgeous! In fact it is so gorgeous that it was selected to be in the American Quilter's Society (AQS) 2020 Quilt Art Engagement Calendar! I received an email with this picture of the quilt and a release form to sign and return, giving my permission for publication. It took me about a nanosecond to sign on the dotted line. I'm absolutely thrilled, and I look forward to seeing it in the calendar…

an old quilt on display in a museum

I'm assuming most of us have danced to the song "The Hokey Pokey." You know. "You put your right foot in, You take your right foot out"... I usually hear that little ditty a couple times a week, when my little grandson is here having lunch. Music to eat by! Anyway, it got me thinking about how similar my approach to my newest project has been to the song... one step at a time. 1. You put your right foot in.... When I was in Houston for Quilt Festival this past fall, I saw Aline Joulin's…
