Scout Finch is the narrator of the story. She is extremely mature and smart for her age. She doesn't like to wear dresses or makeup. Instead she likes to wear overalls. Her father raises her to be compassionate and competent.

Chapter 6: Jem, Scout, and Dill sneak off and go into Boo Radley's yard. They hear a shotgun and run, but Jem's pants get caught on the fence, and he ends up leaving them. They go back to their house to find the town gathered and saying that "a negro went into The Radley yard". Jem retrieves his pants later that night.
