Pansy

I loved photographing these hardy and resilient beauties in the snow yesterday. When we think of the word “pansy,” we often associate it with being delicate and weak—quite the opposite of strong and resilient. Yet these tiny blooms are remarkably tough, flowering throughout winter and even in snow, provided they receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. I got a jump on planting some seeds this winter by using a recycled container as a mini greenhouse! The flowers I planted have sprouted and are thriving this summer. Check out this Viola cornuta known as 'Johnny Jump-Up', the purple bloom is Nicotiana alata, and the orange Viola cornuta 'Chantreyland' (I'm obsessed with this one!).
