This central feature at Boughton House reflects its evolution from a Tudor Manor to a grand baroque mansion.   With its high ceilings and grand proportions, this grand chamber is characteristic of the Baroque style favored during the late 17th century transformation of the house.  When entering the Great Chamber, one’s eyes are immediately drawn up to the spectacular baroque painted barrel ceiling. Painted by Louis Chéron, the ‘Apotheosis of Hercules’ remains incomplete, and was one of the last to be worked on.
