It's usually a piece of writing that will bring me to an album, but this album has led me to pick up Aria Dean's essays and think about what goes into my having a space in which I can chill out. And how I am nonetheless chilling out to this album, which seems to unfold more for me with each listen. Can't choose a favorite track because the album feels like an organic whole.

Even at 80 years old, Pharoah Sanders played his tenor sax with the conviction of a gospel preacher. Every second of this album is arrestingly beautiful. As far as I'm concerned, this is essential listening for anyone who considers themselves a fan of music.
