The Art Journal was a Victorian-era fine arts magazine published in London by J. S. Virtue and Co. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)
The Art Journal began publishing under this title in 1849, succeeding The Art-Union (which had begun in 1839) and continuing its volume numbering. A parallel American edition, with similar but not identical content, began in 1875 and ran until 1887. The original London edition continued until 1912.
