Software that ships and stays in the field.
I design and build software systems. That usually starts with the embedded software at the heart of a product and runs through to the backend and services around it, along with everything that ties them together. Firmware and hardware bring-up are where I come from, and the rest of the stack is what keeps the underlying complexity out of the user's way. Most of my track record is in ProAV, broadcast and high-tech industrial work, but the same approach fits anywhere software has to last. That works as a development partner and as a consultant.
What I do
01
The whole stack, end-to-end
Hardware: schematic-to-driver work for HDBaseT, audio crosspoint, Ethernet PHY, EDID, CEC, clock generation, sub-MCU coordination. Bootloaders with signed-OTA across multiple board variants. System libraries: networking stack, HTTP server, libCEC port, file systems, a custom UDP control protocol, the cloud client. Product firmware across multiple product variants and chip generations.
On-device web frontends: a browser SPA per product line, with drag-and-drop routing matrix and live connection lines, mesh device adoption, a multiviewer layout editor, OTA upgrade flow, virtual remote, cloud monitoring. Mobile apps alongside that. Backend and cloud services behind the products: HTTP / REST APIs, device-to-cloud integration, and the server-side data and dashboards behind them.
Bench-test harnesses per board family. An automated device-test suite running HTTP / UDP / mesh against real DUTs, and a browser-based regression suite running Playwright against the device UIs.
Build, packaging, signing and release tooling: multibranch CI pipeline, AES-encrypted firmware archives, an end-to-end release flow that builds, deploys, runs the suites against the DUT, and updates downstream tracking. Production-test firmware runs during board manufacturing.
02
Consulting & advisory
Advisory work, alongside the building. Architecture review before a project commits to a stack. Code audits on existing systems. Training sessions for integrator teams. The calls that come in when a vendor's own support has hit a wall.
Length follows the work: a single day, a couple of weeks, a multi-month engagement. Direct with end-clients, or as a back-room technical resource for vendors, distributors and integrators.
03
New-build with integrated technology
Together with Ontwerpbureau Op den Kamp I deliver complete new-build and renovation projects: design and technology integration from one party, on one contract.
The technical side covers cabling, AV distribution, lighting control (DMX/RDM, KNX, DALI, 0-10V) and home-automation dashboards. The lighting itself too: selection, advice and supply. Everything sits inside the architectural design from the start, instead of being bolted on afterwards.
