Abstract

A selective bi-directional parallel-to-series conversion module (2) for use with a digital camera (4) and a modem (6), and a method for transmitting and processing image data and command signals. The binary digital output from a digital camera (4) is input to the module (2) where it is converted to an ASCII format. The image data in ASCII format is then sent to a modem (6) where it is transmitted over standard communications lines (8, 12) to a receiving computer (16).
