Description

The invention relates to optical discs on which information is recorded or intended for recording information, such as for example audio or video discs, blank or recorded. In a very general way, an optical disc is perforated in its center in order to be able in particular to be maintained in its storage case by hooking on a central lug of the case. The disc is fixed on this lug under the constraint of a pressure and is released therefrom thanks to a tensile stress. The repetition of these stresses or the more violent than usual exercise of one of them can cause one or more cracks which can propagate from the center of the disc into the surface of recording information or storing information recorded on the disc. These cracks cause anomalies in reading or recording the optical disc, up to rendering it unusable. The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks by prohibiting the appearance of these cracks by proposing a device which represents only little additional cost compared to the value of an optical disc and which can be very easily implemented. To this end, the subject of the invention is a device for protecting against the appearance of cracks for an optical disc, characterized in that it consists of a washer of adhesive polyester intended to be fixed to the center of the optical disc. We know that an optical disc has a smooth annular central part without gaps with a diameter of about 35mm which is not used for information storage and which we will call neutral annular central part. This neutral annular central part of the optical disc serves as a bearing surface for the drive system of the optical disc player or recorder. The washer according to the invention will be fixed on this neutral annular central part and may have a diameter which will correspond to it. The central hole of the washer will be aligned axially with the central hole of the optical disc on which the washer will be affixed. L ?. eu '!! e of polyester which composes the washer has the advantage of being tear-proof and of being able to be glued on a flat and smooth surface without leaving a gap between it and the surface which it covers. The neutral annular central part of the optical disc thus covered with this tear-resistant polyester has a reinforced structure preventing the appearance of cracks. The invention extends to an optical disc comprising a washer as defined above fixed to one face of the optical disc. In document US Pat. No. 5,590,114, an optical disc is provided provided with an annular device fixed to the central neutral part of the optical disc by means of an adhesive. However, this annular device serves to increase the coefficient of friction between the central part of the optical disc and a rotary drive mechanism. The patent document EP0373763 also discloses an annular device identical to that known from the document US5590114. According to a feature of the optical disc according to the invention, the protective washer fixed on the neutral annular central part of the optical disc will have a diameter less than the diameter of the neutral annular central part of the optical disc, to allow, in superposition of the washer protection, the permanent attachment of a label of larger diameter than the protective washer and on which (the label) may be written typographic information such as for example those identifying the content of the disc or the owner of the disc. According to another particularity of the optical disc according to the invention, it may be provided with two washers according to the invention, fixed on its two faces, at least one of which may be of diameter less than that of the neutral annular central part. In addition, it has been found that by providing an optical disc with a washer such as that of the invention on at least one of its faces, the phenomena of vibration in the reader or recorder are significantly reduced when the disc is driven by the drive and / or recorder motor. As a result, the washer according to the invention also has the advantage of solving the drawback of vibrations in the optical disc reader and / or recorder during the reading and / or recording of an optical disc. Advantageously, the washer according to the invention will be between 70 and 100 microns thick, preferably around 84 microns, so as not to excessively thicken the center of the disc on which it will be bonded, while providing sufficient resistance to the tear and a mass suitable for balancing the disc in the desired effect of eliminating vibrations when the disc is rotated in the player and / or recorder. The invention will now be described in more detail and with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate non-limiting examples. Figure 1 schematically shows a washer according to the invention seen from above. FIG. 2 schematically shows an optical disc provided with a washer according to the invention. Figure 1 shows a washer 1 according to the invention for the protection of an optical disc. This washer has in its center a hole 2 of diameter equivalent to that of the central hole of the disc on which it is intended to be applied. FIG. 2 shows the neutral annular central part 4 of an optical disc 3 having a central hole 2 ′ as well as its area for storing or recording information 5. The washer 1 according to the invention is intended to be fixed in superposition of this neutral annular central part 4, the hole 2 of the washer 1 and the hole 2 ′ of the neutral annular central part 4 being axially aligned, as visible in FIG. 2. The affixing of the protective washer 1 on the neutral annular central part 4 makes it possible to avoid the creation and the propagation of cracks from the central hole of the disc towards the zone of storage or recording of information 5. As visible on figure 2 the protection washer 1 can have an outside diameter lower than that of the neutral annular central part 4. The affixing of a protective washer 1 with a diameter less than that of the part 4 makes it possible to bond durably in superposition of the washer 1 and of part 4, and in the same axial alignment, a label (not shown). In fact, any user of the optical disc (manufacturer, buyer, renter, etc.) may have an interest in marking their disc using typographic information contained on a label. However, polyester is a material that does not allow a lasting attachment of a label overlay. The lower diameter of the washer 1 allows the label, superimposed on the washer 1, to also adhere directly to the neutral annular central part 4. Of course, the protective washer 1 may have the same outside diameter as the central part neutral annular 4. The optical disc 3 may have each side covered with a protective washer 1 on the neutral annular central part 4. The advantage of covering each side of an optical disc with a protective washer is to reinforce the protective effect sought in that the cracks cannot appear or spread from the center of the disc on any side of the disc thus covered. The two faces of the optical disc 3 can each be covered with a washer 1, one of these washers may be of an outside diameter smaller than that of the neutral annular central part 4. This arrangement combines the advantage of a protection on both sides of the disc and the possibility of permanently affixing a label superimposed on the washer 1. The washer 1 also constitutes, as soon as it is affixed on the neutral annular central part 4, as shown in FIG. 2 , a device for reducing vibrations in the reader or recorder when the optical disc is driven by the drive and / or recorder motor. Advantageously, the washer 1 can be used as an information medium by printing information on the chip 1 using a thermal printer for example.
