a postage stamp with an image of a knight on horseback

*** *** *** I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr. I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less. By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you…

In 1401 Owain Glyndwr began a campaign for Welsh independence. He was crowned Prince of Wales at Carrog on the banks of the Dee and set up a parliament at Machynlleth. In 1402 Edmund Mortimer, Lord of Wigmore, who had been sent by Henry IV to put down the revolt, met the Welsh at Pilleth on Bryn Glas Hill. Owains army totally destroyed the English forces and captured Mortimer, who threw in his lot with Owain.

This is a statue of Owain Glyndŵr (Owen Glendower). In Henry IV, as in real life, Glendower is the leader of the Welsh army who are rebels against Henry IV of England. Like we talked about in class, Glendower has become a mythic hero for the Welsh nation. He is regarded as a national hero for advocating independence of Wales. Glendower ran after being defeated in battle and his disappearance heightens his legacy. This photo comes from picqero on flickr.com. - Levi Bedall

The Owain Glyndwr hills walk on Saturday 31st August takes you through some truly stunning Countryside around the town of Corwen. There is a bus from Corwen to Glyn Ceiriog then you walk back through the valleys and hills that our local hero Owain Glyndwr would have travelled through over 600 years ago. Magical history and some amazing countryside.
