My daughter asked me to make her a checkbook cover so she didn’t have to use the ugly plastic one (gasp!) from the bank! It seemed a shame that someone like myself who can sew, had been using a plastic one too! (the horror) They are quick and easy to put together and great little… Read More »Simple Checkbook Cover Tutorial

A checkbook cover makes a cute little gift! There are a few tutorials around, but I thought I'd share with you how I make mine. You will need: Fabric 1 front - 7 x 7 1/2 (grey floral) 1 lining - 7 x 1/2 (grey and black) 2 pockets - 7 x 6 1/2 (yellow) Iron-on interfacing 1 - 6 1/4 x 7 1/4 2 - 6 1/4 x 2 1/4 I like to cut my interfacing a quarter of an inch, or so, smaller than the pieces it will go on to reduce bulky seams. It doesn't have to be perfect either. Fold the pocket pieces in half…

4 more Christmas baskets (which brings my Christmas basket total to 8) and 3 steno pad covers brings my National Sewing Month count to 28. 28!! All small items, to be sure, but things I wanted to work on, and wanted to try - I'm so very happy! Thanks to Aunt Jo for the inspiration, and thanks to those great ladies who share their wonderful patterns online with us - it's so much appreciated! The steno pads are a new project for me - the pattern is from Two Wacky Women (LOL!) - thanks a bunch…

When I was a kid, my dad started a tradition on New Year's Day by coming up with a slogan for the new year. The first one I remember hearing about was: "Don't be late in '78". And then there was the follow up: "Arrive on time in '79." Those were the most memorable. And we, to this day, ask my dad what his slogan of the year is. It's a fun family memory. All that to tell you that I blame/credit my dad with my title of this series of Christmas gift tutorials that I came up with. I was going to…
