Introducing this resource was a GAME CHANGER when teaching my students how to identify main ideas and important details in informational text! In a colorful, broken down format, it names different text structures, their purpose, and signal words to help identify how a writer is organizing the text. I also included graphic organizers to represent each text structure, which students can use to take notes on any informational text in front of them! Before creating this guide, many of my students struggled to breakdown and summarize non-fiction texts, but after some practice using this sheet as a reference, I seriously saw their note-taking skills grow!It can be used as an individual student reference sheet or a classroom poster!
